I've had this on my mind for a while now and feel a calling to share it with everyone in Freehold.
The other day I was shaking hands at the Freehold Senior Citizen Center. I was last in line to pay the fifty cents for my coffee. A smiling young lady making change took my two quarters and said, "Perfect". As it does whenever someone takes my exact change or a simple order in a restaurant and says, "Perfect", I got annoyed. No one else was in line behind me so I gave the young lady a bit of my thinking on use of the word, "Perfect".
Do you realize, I asked her, we are all born sinners? Eve persuaded Adam to commit the original sin at the beginning of our time. Sin has grown with each generation since then until today our culture is so soaked in sin it smells like a dump ground. The world is not "perfect", far from it.
Today, several homers will get married. Is this "perfect"? The Bible tells us homerism is a sin and people do it anyway. Is that "perfect"?
We have a President who is turning away from capitalism where people work to socialism where people sleep all day. Is that "perfect".
The correct response to my two quarters would be, "thank you", not "perfect". When we have a world that is free of sin things will be perfect.
Another couple came up to pay for coffee. The young woman said, Thank you, Mayor. I had not thought of all that.
It's my hope we in Freehold reserve our use of the word "Perfect" to God, Jesus and to those of us who are True Christians™.
Thanks for listening. Thanks, too, for allowing me to be your Mayor.
