  • Ferguson, MO: I'm proud of Mayors who profit from adversity.

When the world press descended on Ferguson, MO., for interviews and documents about a little incident involving their police officer, Mayor Jimmy Knowles saw an opportunity.

Why not, he thought, bill all these busy body news organizations for the expense of their noisiness? In fact, why not make a substantial profit?

That's what he is doing. And, oh, the cry of injustice.

All these news organizations want to do is look at how many white officers versus negroes. And, how many arrests of negroes versus the City's indigenous population of Christian white people. None of this is any news organization's business. It is the exclusive business of the Mayor and his team as they run their City.

To be honest, I've had it with criticism of a fellow Mayor.

I don't know what happened to the good, old timey kind of mayor, Brother Mayor. Other than yourself and a few others, like the mayor in Ferguson, no one seems to know how to turn a profit anymore. I think it's because of the awful public educations people get these days.

When I was a young fellow I lived in Houston. The Mayor there was Louis Welch and he was a Christian. You had to be a Christian to be elected to high office in America back in those days, before Satan made such terrible inroads into our society.

Brother Mayor Louis Welch was in the real estate business before he became mayor. When the Intercontinental Airport was built, he prevailed upon his brother, who was still in the real estate business, to personally assist almost every single landowner in a five mile radius to sell their land to the airport or for commercial use near the airport.

In that manner, he helped further God's plan and made a tidy profit for himself by getting all the contracts to sell the land before the location was announced, thus avoiding an untidy rush.

Later, Brother Louie was elected President of the Chamber of Commerce. Now, he is in Heaven.

Thank you, Brother Moss, for sharing that inspirational story of a Mayor Welch. Mayor Welch, rest his soul, is his talked about whenever Mayors gather.

I was mentored years ago by a mayor way up in East Grand Forks, ND. His name was Louie Murray. Louie told me of the criticism he received when he issued himself a hard-to-come-by liquor license. "I always tell people, a good Mayor should be able to get himself a liquor license."

That Louie, also, is now in heaven.
