    New Jesus Lover here

Hi, new Jesus-following member here. I am not a Baptist, or member of any denomination. I am however obsessed with following Jesus. My standard resource is the King James Version of the bible which is what I base my faith upon. I also have a copy of the "One Year Bible", which features the "New Living Translation." I use this as an adjunct to check my interpretation. I recommend the book "The Five Books of Moses" by Everett Fox, if you like poetry. The commentary and notes are excellent. I can also highly recommend the book "Jesus the Jew," by Geza Vermes (a brilliant scholar who died this very month!). My field of study is "pre-easter" Jesus, which is a highly speculative but intriguing area of study.

How very interesting! I do hope you'll share your findings!

    Welcome to our friendly forums!

Hello, my name is Mary. I hope to fellowship with you! That is, unless you don't listen to church authority (Deuteronomy 17:12); are a witch (Exodus 22:17); are a homosexual (Leviticus 20:13; Romans 1:24-32); or fortuneteller (Leviticus 20:27) or a snotty kid who hits their dad (Exodus 21:15); or curses their parents (Proverbs 20:20; Leviticus 20:9); an adulterer (Leviticus 20:10); a non-Christian (Exodus 22:19; Deuteronomy 13:7-12; Deuteronomy 17:2-5;Romans 1:24-32); an atheist (2 Chronicles 15:12-13); or false prophet (Zechariah 13:3); from the town of one who worships another, false god (Deuteronomy 13:13-19); were a non-virgin bride (Deuteronomy 22:20-21); or blasphemer (Leviticus 24:10-16), as God calls for your execution and will no doubt send you to Hell, and I have no interest developing a friendship with the Spiritually Walking Dead.

What interpretation? Is your KJV in a foreign language like scottish?
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

For example in the Garden of Eden. The text states very clearly that a serpent animal spoke to Eve. Even a child correctly interprets this as Satan. Other passages are not so easy.

You can love Jesus all you want, what really matters is that Jesus loves you back. My suggestion is to lay the flattery on THICK...it could mean the difference between lounging on a cloud playing a harp for all eternity, or thrashing and screaming in a lake of fire forever with your brains boiling in your skull. Praise Him!

Well, all that matters is that Jesus killed him dead...better late than never.

Adding suggested elements I left out of my introduction:
                        • If you look at my user name that tells you my favorite bible verse, that phrase occurs only one place in the bible, according to my Cruden's Complete Concordance.
                        • How I came to find Jesus: I procured a weatherbeaten white paper cover bible at a rummage sale. The owner gave it to me for free, said he couldn't put a price on the Bible. It featured "The Words of our Saviour in Red." I realized I could find no fault in any of those direct quotations of Jesus. They immediately rang true and began my journey. I have wandered many places, some scary, in my journey since that day of realization in 1984. But those words and that ring of truth have been my direction ever since then.

No, it was a serpent. If God meant Satan, He would of said so.

There are a lot of gullible and not too bright people in the world. If the Bible was full of innuendos and falsehoods, think how many people would be mislead, wasting their entire lives following lies.

It says so, right in the Bible!
2nd Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

2 Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Habakkuk 2:2 And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
(God told the prophet what to write.)

Jeremiah 36:2 Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.
(God told the prophet what to write.)

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

Furthermore, God instructs to follow EVERY word in the Bible or be willing to accept the consequences for second guessing Him:

Deuteronomy 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

Deuteronomy 12:32 What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
Proverbs 30:6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

Matthew 4:4 Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Revelation 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
Revelation 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Now, if you still think you know better than the Word of God(r), please post the scripture, jacket blurb or footnotes from Jesus that tell you to make things up as you go.
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

You haven't exactly been well-mannered, lady. I asked you to properly introduce yourself (name, age, location, church, etc) some time ago. Ignoring a Pastor's directive is the same as spitting in Christ's loving face.
