  • Texas public schools will get closer to Godliness.

    Shout glory! In George W. Bush's (and thus God's) adopted home state, those students who are not blessed to be homeschooled will soon have a curriculum free of most of the lie-beral nonsense that blue-staters have inserted into the state's schools. What's more, since Texas is such a huge buyer of textbooks, textbook publishers typically give Texas whatever it wants, so most of the country will have to go along.

    From the JYT:

    Texas Approves Curriculum Revised by Conservatives

    AUSTIN, Tex. — After three days of turbulent meetings, the Texas Board of Education on Friday voted to approve a social studies curriculum that will put a conservative stamp on history and economics textbooks, stressing the superiority of American capitalism, questioning the Founding Father’s commitment to a purely secular government and presenting Republican political philosophies in a more positive light.

    * * *

    The board, whose members are elected, has influence beyond Texas because the state is one of the largest purchasers of textbooks. In the digital age, however, that influence has been diminished as technological advances have made it possible for publishers to tailor books to individual states.

    In recent years, board members have been locked in an ideological battle between a bloc of conservatives who question Darwin’s theory of evolution and believe the Founding Fathers were guided by Christian principles and a handful of Democrats and moderate Republicans who have fought to preserve the teaching of Darwinism and the separation of church and state.

    * * *

    There are seven members of the conservative bloc on the board, but they are often joined by one of the other three Republicans on crucial votes. There were no historians, sociologists or economists consulted at the meetings, though some members of the conservative bloc held themselves out as experts on certain topics.

    The conservative members maintain that they are trying to correct what they see as a liberal bias among the teachers who proposed the curriculum. To that end, they made dozens of minor changes aimed at calling into question, among other things, concepts like the separation of church and state and the secular nature of the American Revolution.

    “I reject the notion by the left of a constitutional separation of church and state,” said David Bradley, a conservative from Beaumont who works in real estate. “I have $1,000 for the charity of your choice if you can find it in the Constitution.”

    * * *

    Cynthia Dunbar, a lawyer from Richmond who is a strict constitutionalist and thinks the nation was founded on Christian beliefs, managed to cut Thomas Jefferson from a list of figures whose writings inspired revolutions in the late 18th century and 19th century, replacing him with St. Thomas Aquinas, John Calvin and William Blackstone. (Jefferson is not well liked among the conservatives on the board because he coined the term “separation between church and state.”)

    “The Enlightenment was not the only philosophy on which these revolutions were based,” Ms. Dunbar said.

    Mavis B. Knight, a Democrat from Dallas, introduced an amendment requiring that students study the reasons “the founding fathers protected religious freedom in America by barring the government from promoting or disfavoring any particular religion above all others.”

    It was defeated on a party-line vote.
    Except for the part about glorifying a Romanist like Aquinas, this almost makes me want to move to Texas and enroll Isaac III in a public school.

      This is indeed great news. The USA has a surplus of college-educated youth who can't find decent jobs, while there's a shortage of people willing to do manual labor for $5/day (which is why we import Mexicans). Thanks to these changes in the Texas curriculum, both problems will be solved simultaneously. It's the best thing that's happened since home schooling.

        I met Cynthia Dunbar, now the head of the Texas Board of Education, at a Prayer Breakfast at Pat Robertson's Regent University in Virginia Beach in 2004. She was there at her alma mater to lead prayers for the College Republicans at Regent University-- basically the whole school. What a charming woman!!! She is a delight!!! It's wonderful that we have such a fine, brilliant young Christian in charge of the school board of an important state like Texas, where so many school book depositories are strategically located!!

        As I said, she's a wonderful and bright young woman. Just don't get her started on her mortal enemy, Thomas Jefferson!!

          Jefferson was a God-mocking race-mixer through whom the devil inspired the lie of "separation of church and state" and whom the lie-bertarians claim as one of their own. As such, he was the mortal enemy of all True Christians™.

            News like this constitutes the small ray of hope that is so welcome in these dark days of Obamunism. I think we in Iowa should follow the lead of Texas on this, isn't there someone among us whom we can elect for the Board of Education of Iowa?

            And let's hope we now get a True Christian™ judge instead of a lieberal one, like the last time a Godly Board of Education attempted to end the hellish boycott of Jesus in our classrooms.
            Sweet Lord Jesus,
            I want to pray for those who persecute me, my Lord.
            Please, treat their children as you treated those of Egypt, when they upset you! (Psalm 135:8-9)
            Dash their little children against the stones for their fathers iniquity! (Psalm 137:8-9)
            Hit them on the cheek, and smash out their teeth! (Psalm 3:7)
            Make their death and descent into Hell swift and terrible! (Psalm 55:15)
            Scatter their broken bodies over the streets of their evil cities, like Benghazi, Amsterdam, Tokyo and Mecca! (Psalm 110:6)
            Praised be Your Glorious Name™.

            Amen.

              Why on earth was Thomas Jefferson ever included in accounts of U. S. history anyway?

              Compared to the Christian Founding Fathers and the evangelical preachers throughout our country's history, Jefferson was just a momentary blip on the radar screen. Good riddance!

                Thomas Jefferson is largely credited with successfully arguing for a Bill of Rights that supports such ridiculous notions as "freedom of religion," prohibits the quartering of soldiers in people's homes without their consent, offers protection against warrantless searches and seizures, guarantees "due process of law," and so on. In other words, it's a liberal document that ties the hands of our police and military when fighting terrorism.

                How can we build a successful surveillance state when liberal judges keep citing the Bill of Rights? You can bet that Obama bin Laden just loves Jefferson and his silly BoR.

                Thomas Jefferson, founder of Al Qaeda.

                The Bill of Rights is a threat to our way of life, and corporate profits. If we can't censor the liberal media, imprison global warming alarmists, wiretap and arrest environmental and labor union activists because of their "rights," corporations like mine will lose millions.

                Fortunately, Republicans have been stacking the Supreme Court with right-thinking judges who recognize that, among other things, corporations are people too, and are entitled to freedom of speech by bribing politicians.

                That's a good start, but what we really need is a Bill of Rights for Corporations. Such a Bill should provide, at a minimum, freedom from taxation, immunity to prosecution for fraud, the right of CEOs to determine their own compensation, recognition that global warming is a hoax, and the appointment of the President and Congress by the Fortune 500.

                I'm sure that you will all agree that rule by corporations is the Christian Way. The Lord would certainly approve.
