  • A little advice as I am new to the Christian Faith...

I have a wife whom is very young (23 to my 30) and her father raised her to be a good and loyal servant to God, himself, and me her husband. He would quite often spank her for her transgressions (burning a steak, back talking, etc.). He has since passed away (just shortly after we married) and since we have been married I have let things that she would normally have been punished by her Father for slide (even though on his death bed I promised I would continue the practice to keep her loyal to God and to me.).

So my question and I doing her a disservice by not carrying this on like her father? Should I be doing it? And if I should be how am I to go about it? Do I give her warning or just call her in to the room and comence punishment? I am confused and I would like a little guidance on the matter.

Thank you for your input and advice. God Bless.

God has clear rules on how she should behave: 1 Timothy 2:11-12 "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence." Genesis 3:16 "Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee."

If she breaks those rules you have to punish her. But be sure to always be righteous and to always explain yourself so that she knows why she is punished and what she has to improve. You should always punish her out of love and try to make sure she learns from the experience.

Letting things slide is never a good idea:
Proverbs 13:24. "He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes."

Should I ask her mother to borrow the paddle he used? I mean because this is what he used on her as his form of punishment? Don't think me a coward but to me a paddle seems a little too extreme and I personally think my hand might just suffice, but should I keep to the same method as her father or develop my own? Would the lessons be lost if I don't inflict the same degree of punishment? She really has not gone long since her last punishment, because she lived in her father's house up until the day we married, she was still punished when the time called for it, including the day before our wedding for her sassy mouth.
Did I mention she has a very wild tongue for a girl raised in a Christian household and that is one thing that bothers me most. I have already spoiled her by not carrying out punishments for the past 3 mos? Her tongue just keeps getting wilder as the days progress. I really do fear that if I do not get a handle on the situation I might just have an unruly woman birthing my children. I am also concerned that if I do follow the same method as her father I might hurt her as I have never had to punish a woman in this manner before.

You should stop worrying about hurting her and start doing your duty as her husband.

Women need some non-verbal guidance at times. Like Brother Man said: you want to be clear and righteous.

That way, she will come to associate improper behavior on her part with being corrected. If you correct her randomly, she won't be able to learn.

It's a common misconception: Christian men correct their wives to help their wives, not to hurt them.
I take my orders from Jesus H. Christ, supernatural born US citizen

Be wary of false Kumbaya Christians who use a highlighter and scissors to read the Bible. God wants us to read the lines, not between the lines. False Christians will go to Hell:
          Matthew 7:22
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Asking a Christian to prove God exists is like asking him to prove his phone rings because yours doesn't. Make that call yourself! Dial 0800-get-on-your-knees-and-pray.

Thank you for all your guidance on this matter. I heeded all your wise words and did the deed. I made her pray to God for forgiveness and then we went through with the punishment and I spanked her until I was sure she was sorry and then kept going a little longer, after all was said and done she thanked me and cooked me the best dinner I have had in the whole time we have been married. She was respectful and I later heard her praying again thanking God for giving her a husband who would punish her for her sins.

I believe this will be a new chapter in our marriage.

Thank you again and God Bless you all.
