Re: Day 1. Genesis 1-3
Wide Open, I HAVE read that verse! Noted it as one of my favorites on my introduction post, but I'm not surprised you didn't read it. I understand my status as unsaved trash.
I'm pleased to see such an unapologetic acceptance of the origins of evil - so many evangelicals I've spoken to in the past try and promote the idea that God and evil are in some way incompatible or incapable of coexisting. Obviously, if God made everything, God made evil.
Mrs. Attila - I did not skip Genesis 1:1, I promise. In fact, it was the first verse I read! Berashith indeed.

Susan seems to have skipped Genesis 1:1, which is not really a promising start, is it?

You should really read first and ask questions later. If you would have read Isaiah 45:7 you'd know the answer already.
So far the cake walk.

The Bible could have said that on the first day, God made good (light) and God made evil (darkness). In a way He did, but He called them light and dark.
I hope that explains it
"Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light."
It doesn't actually say God created darkness. It seems to read like darkness was already there.
And God created evil?
Um, if God is omnibenevolent, "and in him is no darkness at all"
where'd the darkness and/or evil come from?

Thanks for the confirmation! This is going to be a cake walk.

Re: Day 1. Genesis 1-3
I'm excited to start Brother V's Bible program, but unfortunately I already have a question; or rather a need for clarification.
"For what it’s worth, the first ~400,000 years of the universe had no free light. The entire universe was filled with electronic plasma, which is opaque. Light first appeared after the plasma cooled and formed atoms, which was called 'recombination.' So the universe [or Big Bang, theistic or otherwise] didn’t start out with light at all."
Am I to assume I should simply discount this assertion entirely because it doesn't agree with Genesis?
Further, can I safely conclude that anything similarly in contradiction to the Bible can be similarly dismissed? If so, this is going to be WAY easier than I thought.

The appropriate response is to love the Lord Jesus Christ not for what He can help you avoid, but for the wonderful gift He gave to those to whom it pleases Him to give - the gift of Salvation (Romans 8:29-31). This is a free gift available to those who respond appropriately (John 14:15). So long as you fear Hell, your heart isn't in the right place (loving Him). Only when you are sincerely grateful that the Lord has taken your place to pay the debt that the Lord requires, when the Lord has covered you in His Precious Blood will He forget your sins and see the face of Jesus rather than Kewlcat (Isaiah 43:25). Then He will love you and make you righteous and your name will be written in the Book of Life (Revelation 20:1).
You might try a prayer like this, dear:
Dear Heavenly Father, I am unworthy to be called your child. Let me be your servant and do your bidding. Use me as your instrument. I desire nothing more than to be your tool. Take my mind, take my heart, take my will, and shape it into yours. I pray you conform my will to yours, lest I allow a single thought of prideful rebellion or autonomy seep through. Let me be a mere reflection of your conditional affection to the rest of the world. Take my life, you own me anyway. I am nothing, so take and do with me what you will. On my own, I am naught but disgusting, fermenting, pile of sinful flesh. You are right to think of me as nothing more than a heaping pile of stench-filled menstrual rags sitting out in the hot desert sun. Use me to your glory, Jesus, and if that glory includes sending me to Hell where I will suffer for an eternity, then yet shall I praise You in the very depths of Hell. I am the worst person in the world, and I bow to your Greatness, your Might, your Will. I love you unconditionally, and will be your slave, mind and body, without reservation.

If you don't believe the Word of God to be accurate, then you risk not believing such important things such as talking serpents (Genesis 3:1), or flaming swords that protects the Tree of Life against prideful, sinful man (Genesis 3:22), in a perfect garden that miraculously evades Google maps (Genesis 3:24). If you don't believe the Lord's Word to be Trustworthy, why would you believe in Heaven, the window of which Noah himself saw (Genesis 7:11)? If you think the Lord can be mistaken about such simple things like optical physics, then you would hoave no reason to be assured that all animals fear man, even the shark or bear who doesn't always remember this (Genesis 9:2).
I implore you to search your heart, deeply, find the root sin that blinds you to the Truth, confess it, and truly accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior in order to avoid eternal damnation (Romans 10:9), as well as lifelong ignorance and moral retardation (Proverbs 9:10).

But it's not just the facts themselves you will understand to be fibs and fabrications, the moral lessons are likely to be ignored. Why, if you cannot trust the Lord to say what He means and mean what He says, then how would you ever know that the morally acceptable thing to do when confronted with hosting angels who are *this close* to being anally bombarded by a gang of insatiable gays is to offer virgin daughters instead (Genesis 19:8; 2 Peter 2:7-8)? From what other source else can you know the relationship between obedience and salt (Genesis 19:26)?
