No, the "basic view point" is that the woman must serve the man as God commands.

It's true, but I wouldn't think of myself as my husband's maid. I think of myself more of the person raising the children, keeping the house clean, the food cooked and on the table, and the laundry done. A woman's job is never done, but it's the man who puts the food on the table, and pays the bills.

And, with the exception of 1 Peter 3:1, you're right that those verses don't only apply to women. They apply equally to all people needing physical correction for their mistakes, be they wives, sons, daughters or even just heathens.

If god was truly a loving god, then he wouldnt let men beat women.

Of course God is a loving God, but there is a huge difference between the kind of tough love He employs and your fluffy bunny definition of love. He doesn't want people to choose to get sent to the fiery pits of Hell, and sometimes that means doing some pretty extreme things. Just take a look at some of these examples:

"Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you." Deuteronomy 22:21

God loves us enough to command us to make examples of fornicating harlots by stoning them.

"And it shall come to pass, that when any shall yet prophesy, then his father and his mother that begat him shall say unto him, Thou shalt not live; for thou speakest lies in the name of the LORD: and his father and his mother that begat him shall thrust him through when he prophesieth." Zechariah 13:3

God loves us enough to command us to make examples of false prophets by running them through (presumably with a sword or other sharp instrument).

"Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live." Exodus 22:18

God loves us enough to command us to make examples of witches by killing them.

"If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." Leviticus 20:13

God loves us enough to command us to make examples of homosexuals by putting them to death.

"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." Revelation 20:14-15

Finally, God loves us enough to infinitely punish sinners for their finite sins simply because He doesn't want them to sin. Honestly, I don't understand why people just can't seem to understand that God doesn't want us to do certain things, He really makes it crystal-clear.

For years i've been taught to respect women. When a women is acting out of line, you should talk to her, be kind, not violent. Thats like... cruel and unusual...

Anyways, you also seem to have assumed that loving and beating your wife are two mutually exclusive things. On the contrary, we should revere the people who beat us, much in the same way we revere the Lord (although by necessity let me point out we should be revering God more).

I always wondered how that worked out with polygamy in the Bible. Think of all those old kings of Israel who had multiple wives and concubines.

That's nice. I also like how God instructs men to treat the women they have taken as spoils of war.

Notice the man isn't allowed to take her for 30 days. Could that be to make sure she isn't already pregnant?
