Solomon wrote that there are more important things than simply amassing knowledge. More important than knowing the 3 R's, or anything really, is knowing the importance of fearing God and obeying Him without reservation, without condition (Ecclesiastes 12:12-14). As Solomon was the wisest man that ever lived, we would do well to emulate him in our educational approach.
The Lord tells us that the basis of all true knowledge is through fear of Him (Proverbs 1:7). Jesus said that when we know the Truth, the Truth will make us free (John 8:32). The Truth is of course to "study to shew thyself approved unto God" (2 Timothy 2:15). In order for a child to learn how to present himself to God as one approved, for example as a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the Word of Truth, he must study with diligence the Word of God. The child must be made to understand that to fail to do that is to fail to be admitted into Heaven, as he will be forever seen by the LORD as a sinful, offensive, disgusting creature, no better than a pile of stench-filled bloody menstrual rags (Isaiah 64:6). Every child must learn the Ultimate Question: Where Will He Go When He Dies?

Schools can be spiritual battlegrounds for our children. They may be inundated with anti-Christian doctrine, relative morality, and scientific theories based on objective evidence rather than Biblical principles. In schools, children are exposed to evolution, witchcraft, psychology, homosexuality, and masturbation as the gateway "drug" to serial abortion. The Bible tells us to not be deceived however, that bad company corrupts good morals (1 Corinthians 15:33). The child who is well-versed in biblical principles will easily see the falsehood of these claims and may very well be used by God to counter the lies with His truth. Parents can help by arming their children with constant reminders of who watches over them all the time.
Whether you send your child off to be a missionary at their local public school, or you home educate them, you can give them constant reminders that Jesus is watching, and judging, their every move. You can use everyday school items to help keep your children on the straight and narrow!
