    Re: Question for Catholics

Mary, you said: "It's an integral part of the theology. They call it "Mortification" and it basically means worshiping pain. It's all very sad."

No it does not mean worshiping pain. Only God is deserving of our worship.

I thought you had a problem with just the extreme examples you posted. But you seem to miss one of the basic teachings of the Christian faith...the dying to self and picking up your cross.

As to basic mortification read Paul: 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. (NIV) 1 Cor 9:27

I am aware it also exists still in South America and the Middle East. It was a common catholic practice in Europe until the 1400's.

It is still rumored to be common in monastic communities especially among the Opus Dei.

"Mother" Theresa of Calcutta was a strong believer that pain and suffering built spiritual character. It was for this reason that she often refused her patients treatment allowing things to get worse.

Interesting. The cognitive dissonance is so profound in Catholics that they cannot comprehend the vast mental gymnastics their minds must engage in just to rationalize any of their beliefs.

Miss Ryan, might I invite you to read through a very informative explanation as to Why Roman Catholic Papists Are NOT Christians.

So, no, Catholics as a rule do not flog themselves bloody at Easter time. My guess is that those who engage in this activity are trying to unite themselves to the sufferings of Jesus, which is something we are all called to do. In our eyes those in the Philippines are going too far. Not sure they would agree with us but I haven't asked them. So, you are complaining against a local practice in another country, not about a general Catholic practice.

Hi George, welcome to our friendly forums!

I'm afraid you don't know as much about your own church as you might have thought. The priest, "Pope John Paul ll" used to beat himself bloody with an old belt. The only reason he didn't nail himself up to the Vatican rafters was because he knew people would make fun of him and catholics would be mortified to see their beloved leader expose his insanity. The problem is, catholics believe hurting themselves will reduce their time in purgatory - a blatantly fabricated fantasy-land invented by the Roman cults of old to inspire fright and obedience in their followers, those unlucky enough to have been born, through no fault of their own, to papist families in papist lands.

    Dear Papist Fool;

Please make a thread of your own in the "Introductions" section of the forum, so that we can properly greet you. Tell us about yourself, your church, and why you prefer the pope of Rome to Jesus.

And if you're here to flame us, better take a look at THIS before making an even bigger ass out of yourself.

    YIC,

How wonderful, you're calling out to Jesus instead of His dead mother! Have you realized that Mary-worship is sacrilege, and decided to come to Jesus?

Maybe God will heal your scabs for you now!

Yes, it's truly awful to realise what you thought was a religion is just a tissue of lies.

Yes, when one is first confronted with the reality of the papist cult, it can be a little overwhelming.

But don't worry! Throw away your Mary death-cult paraphernalia and ask Jesus to guide you to Heaven!

(1 Timothy 2:5) "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus."

Yours in Christ (NOT MARY, NOT THE POPE),

    Z. Smyth
