If I understand you correctly, the Flood is one of those Old-Testament stories that you take to be parabolic. But in the New Testament, it is always spoken of as a historic event.

Mat 24:37-39 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Lk 17:26-27 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

Here Noah is set forth as a hero of the faith, an example for all Christians:

Heb 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

1 Pet 3:18-20 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: by which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

2 Pet 2:4-10a For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; and spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; and delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds) the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: but chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government.

In this passage ^ both Noah's Flood and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah are treated as historic events.

2 Pet 3:5-7 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: but the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

^The Genesis Flood was just as real as the destruction of the world by fire will be.

The Old Testament is a series of parables
I can't think of a single parable in the Old Testament. The New Testament has some, though, in the Gospels.

Mat 13:34 All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them.

Why did the Council of Trent go to the trouble of adding the apocrypha to the Old Testament if it was all just a bunch of parables anyway? It was a panic response to the Reformation, wasn't it? To show that the pope and the unholy catholic church could still make decisions on God's behalf?
sigpicMt 21:42, 44 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes . . . ? And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

$20 million is a bit expensive. It doesn't need to be that lavish. The real ark only had to be big enough to accommodate the Prophet Noah's (piss be upon him) household and 76 others who submitted to Allah and some domesticated livestock. The finished product should look something like this:

The Biblical version is so hard to swallow. The flood didn't cover the whole world. Noah (pbuh) prayed that Allah would destroy all disbelievers (Surah 71:26), and Allah did, except for Noah's (pbuh) wife Naamah, who was spared from the flood only to be sent to Hell with Lot's wife (Surah 66:10).

Izsmell--I'm not a theologian, but posting a picture like this, when the Bible so clearly spells out what the Ark will look like, is blasphemy I'm quite sure.
Isaiah 24:1-3 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty (2)...as the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. (3) The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken his word.

Those who turned from their polytheistic ways due to the Prophet Noah's (pbuh) preaching.
