    Re: Book burning

Didn't Hitler burn books? I'm not saying that book burning leads to a mass genocide, but the extermination of literature does have a tendency to slow the progress of our understanding of how things work. I understand that many would simply claim that the universe functions simply by the will of God, but I'm sure the more scientifically inclined Christians out there would agree that they would be interested in learning more about the functions of the environment and universe so that they may more truly appreciate the gift of life.

That's very insightful, Petal, there are a couple of tubes on the internets that I'd like to see burned, too.
May you be a blessing to every life you touch.

Kids in particular are vulnerable to the message that any book can be bad. There are plenty of books that I wouldn't want my wonderful 11-year-old niece to be reading just yet, but to tell her that some books should be not only shunned for life but destroyed would be doing her a disservice.

It's amazing how much more you know than even God Almighty. It must be nice to be in a position to correct Him. I guess He should have put you in charge, huh?

Ah, Pastor. I've ruffled your feathers. I never meant to be a grain of sand in anyone's oyster.

Here, I have a peace offering. I have two books here for the bonfire hoedown; one is my aunt's copy of Will Shortz Big Book of Crosswords (all filled in), and the other is this rumpled copy of Bridges of Madison County. (What a stupid book that was. Every week it was again listed on the bestseller's list, I had to go home and have a good cry at the state of the world, and two glasses of white zinfandel to calm myself.....)

And to the hoedown I'll bring an apple pie with raisins in it and a light sugar icing, and a braid trim around the edge of the crust.

You would be wrong. The Bible tells us all that we need to know about God's creation. Why would I want to read a bunch of nonsense from secular humanists who think that they have figured out God's blueprint of the universe?

Oh, you meant you were coming to Indiana for the book-burning in North Salem this weekend?

I thought you were talking about visiting Freehold for their annual Book Burn.

How delightful! Sister Jenny will be here, too! (If she can bear the sight of the flames.)
