I fully agree with you on that. But for us simple humans, we don't know exactly what he is saying (if I'm to assume he exists). So you still have to make a separation between metaphorical or not on your own. Show me the bible-verse which tells you that specific quote concerning the earth's general shape is NOT a metaphor.
Even this common sense you seem to take lightly is something which stems/originates from yourself. The bible can't make sense to you on its own, you need to make the claim that it in fact makes perfect sense to you. :3
