Now, we all know that when a ship goes out to sea, after a while it eventually appears to sink below the horizon until it seems to disappear. Now, the stick figure is you, and your vision is the angle A. The boat begins its journey at position 1, and as it continues towards position 2, it will gradually appear to sink, as it moves along the curvature of the earth. It will most noticeable at position 3, since part of it has past the horizon, the point where the earth curves out of view. At position 4 it will be completely out of view, since it has past the horizon.
