Well, let's pretend that the earth were round. Given that none of you seem to understand what geo-gravitational forces imply, I will have to explain them to you. Down is just a subjective term, gravity does NOT pull you down. Gravity pulls all particles together, and when there are more particles (more density) it accumulates and becomes stronger. Considering how huge the earth is, nothing on it is considerable in comparrison. That is why a sheet of paper does not float over to a balloon, and instead floats over to the FLOOR. Given that a sphrere is a series of rays extending out to a certain limit and the theoretical rays lose force as they get farther away from the center, you can see that the strongest forces would be at the center where they all meet, thus everything is pulled to the center.

So, now that we have the basics down, consider the following. The earth is 24,901 miles in circumference roughly. Considering all the pollution in the air most people cannot see more than a mile or two at a time, which means that there are tens of thousands of times more distance in the circumference of the earth than you can see. It would be foolish to think that you could see all the way around the earth if it was flat!! The balloon issue, now. The balloon does not weigh more than a piece of paper, and it certainly does not weigh anything near that of the earth. The paper weighs roughly 10000000000000000000000000000 times less than the earth, so just as the balloon, it sinks down towards the ground. Now, finally. Given that the earth is in fact rotating, we are all on the earth and within it's domain of force. We are on the edge of the earth and moving with it, so we are going at the same speed as the Earth. That is why we do not fly backwards when we jump. You can try the same thing when you're in a school-bus on a country road, but you may move a tiny little amount from the buss shaking around, of course. As for the fool who commented that the a sphere has no edges, that is only if it's represented in three dimensions. A map is a simple 2 dimensional representation of a 3 dimensional shape, and on an accurate map it does in fact have edges.

Finally, I have a practical application of what we've learned here today. If you want to see that the earth is in fact round, try navigating to a precise location using a map and compass with azimuthal geometry. Of course, the earth MUST be flat, so you can obviously ignore the azimuths since walking in a straight line will get you there. Try this out and see how far off target you are after a mile or two. Without azimuthal geometry, your holy warriors in the US Army would all be lost in the middle east.
