I meant that he wanted to spend time with his daughter 'as a father'. He didn't want his daughter to grow up without a father figure in her childhood. Gerard felt guilty for leaving his daughter when he left to do tours and stuff. So he broke up the band.

That's an excuse. He so much as admitted that wanted to do drugs and do kinky sex, and his singing admittedly stupid emo songs took too much time away from these "lofty" goals.
