@ jo: why yes, yes i am. wiccan comes from the word witch, but that word has taken on the meaning of a wand- slinging fool thanks to the catholic church. wiccanism in it's purist and true form is the worship of nature. it is basically the same of st. francis of assisi, but without the belief in one god. it acknowledges that everything has a spirt and treats every spirit with reverence and respect. today many "wiccans" are pagans trying to revive ancient religions. they are fools. and to those that read books and draw in the ground: you are fools as well. knowledge: it really is a wonderful thing.

no i am not, i am explaining the religion as it was intended. there is no such thing as a "True <insert religion here>" because it is in human nature to be corrupt.

i am saying that if you walk around waving a tree branch claiming it to be a religion, you will be looked at just as if someone were to carry around a crucifix saying that you will be saved for carrying it. seems rather foolish in my opinion, savvy?

Now I know that Wikipidea is unreliable at best and down right wrong in many cases, but let us look at what it has to say:

Wicca (pronounced [ˈwɪkə]) is a Neopagan religion and a form of modern witchcraft. Often referred to as Witchcraft or the Craft,its adherents are commonly referred to as Wiccans, or as Witches or Crafters. Developing in England in the first half of the twentieth century,Wicca was popularised in the 1950s and early 1960s by a Wiccan High Priest named Gerald Gardner, who at the time called it the "witch cult" and "witchcraft", and its adherents "the Wica".From the 1960s onward the name of the religion was normalised to "Wicca"

Now let us cross reference that with what http://www.wicca.org.uk/ has to say about the Wikipidea entry.

I believe that there is a danger if allow Wicca to be defined by Wikipedia which provides a good overview but is superficial in its explanation of what is to truly be gained from Wicca, which is truly a beautiful tradition when experienced fully.

Also let us look at what is says the introduction page of that site:

All countries have an indigenous spiritual tradition which existed before monotheism. In Japan it is Shinto, in Hawaii Hula and in Britain Wicca. The word itself dates back to 890 when it was used in the laws of Alfred and there are many other pre 1951 references. Sometimes the word Wicca is used interchangeably with Witchcraft, however Witchcraft is a generic word to describe all native traditions globally, whereas Wicca is purely the native British strand. Native traditions were often surpressed by the rise of monotheism, however following the second world war the law was changed. So according to www.wicca.org.uk Wicca is the British strand of Witchcraft.

Im usually a very calm person, but this thread just pissed me off.

Most of the religions and cults you listed are very neutral simple. They do not wish to spread the word of their God/gods/deities and just live their simple lives. They respect you as human beings and accept your choice to believe in your God. And I expect you to do the same.
This thread does nothing but mocks different groups of people. If you want to list religions and cults which you think are false, then please, go ahead. I think a proper thread like that would actually be useful to a lot of people. But did you have to do it in such a stupidly vulgar way?
And none of the them worship satan. According to your beliefs they may be satanic and will go to hell, but that does not mean that they worship satan. Exept satanists, of course.

Thank you for speaking for all the other members of various religions and cults in the whole world. That sounds like a plum position. Did they elect you or did you inherit the job by divine right? It's nice of you to reassure us that they respect us, because for some strange reason, it doesn't usually sound like that when they post here. I know that you have every right to expect us to obey your directives, but gosh, sometimes we fall short of your stellar example.

Now, let me make sure that I have this straight. You have given us permission to list religions and cults that we think are false; but-- we have to do it in a way that you don't think is stupid or vulgar.

Okay, I and everyone else here will get to work cleaning up our act so that you can sign off on everything that we write about. Boy, all this time I thought that God was speaking to humanity from the Bible, when it was Twisty that the world needed to listen to in the first place.

well forgive my phrasing of my original argument, i was referring to witchcraft in the harry potter sense of the word. wicca and witchcraft are synonymous, but when one says witchcraft most often people tend to think of hocus pocus stuff. so yes, i should have clarified, but i do feel that if these stellar people are going to be rude to every religion, they should at least understand exactly what they are criticizing.

Then what you should have been addressing is what you perceive to be their misconceptions about whichcraft.

You should be clear about exactly what part of these peoples misconceived beliefs you are criticizing. There is an awful lot of material to work with.
