I agree with my fellow Christian even though I haven't read the bible. If you are gay, you are going to hell! God will punish black people for refusing to be our slaves. Like how god made the earthquake in Haiti cause the refused to be our slaves too. After all, Jesus made the United States first. I also believe that dinosaur bones are a hoax by the CIA. We also need to psychologically abuse our children by threatening them with an imaginary hell. I love my guns and I love my country.

Consider the timeframe in which the Bible was written. Consider its original language, which was Greek. At the time, most people were illiterate and uneducated. That one's a given. So, in order to spread stories and general news, everything was delivered by spoken word.

Often times, storytellers would use epithets to help them remember people's names and what they had done that was significant (ex. Homer refers to Odysseus as "the great tactician"). Bear that in mind; I won't say anything more on that, as I have enough tact not to do so.

The Quran lists Jesus as a prophet. They are utilizing his teachings as well. Muhammad preached the same thing as Jesus; they are both Abrahamic religions, like Judaism. My opinion on that one is that they are one in the same.

Thomas actually traveled to India and spread the word of Jesus along the Eastern coast. Again, because of cultural dispersion, it traveled around a bit. Interestingly enough, Buddhism preaches ideals similar to Christianity. However, because of the Hindu influence of the region, there is a bit of a regional twist on things.

Fun fact: Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism were once all seen as cults when they were started.

Just a few thoughts of my own.
Ahem. This forum is a church forum where True Christians™ come to praise God's Glorious Name. This is NOT a liberal college green where young people come to smoke dope and think what they think are deep thoughts. As a real church, we do not get our theology from a woman.
But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. (1 Timothy 2:12)

Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. (1 Corinthians 14:34)

To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. (Titus 2:5)

If you want to know what happens when someone listens to a woman's theology, ask Adam.

Interesting. I was not aware that Moohamed and Buddha preached that the way to eternal life is by accepting Jesus Christ as your LORD and Savior.

    John 14:6
Jesus said unto him, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.

I feel like my IQ just dropped 10 points after having read your post. Are there any more examples of your astonishing ignorance you would like to share with us, foolish woman? If not, then please shut your mouth. This is a Christian forum.

You obviously pissed Him off somewhere along the line.

Please make a thread of your own in the "Introductions" section of the forum, so that we can properly greet you. Tell us about yourself, your church, and how you came to find Jesus.

Um no, the KJV 1611 is THE Word of God because the KJ=V 1611 says so, and that settles it!

    2 Peter

1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Beware! Talking about the bible that way is detrimental to your health! Of course, your mental health is obviously unholy!

    Hebrews

4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

4:13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

No, you have not read the Powerful Word of God!

There are plenty of other religions, or interpretations of those religions (you guys are just a small part of christianity), so please explain to me why you are right and they are wrong.
Unfortunatly, the answer: "the Bible says so" is not enough. I know you are convinced that the Bible is the only truth available, but I'm afraid muslims say the exact same thing abouth the koran, and others think it's all the same, books written by people, nothing more. Why would you be right, and all the others wrong?

Note: This section was split off from Is Your Child a Goth, as the discussion merited its own space. -OYK
Well, let's give this question a try...

Firstly, there's historical fact to back up the Bible. There are literal, and figurative, mountains of evidence for what the Bible claims. And, whether they want to admit it or not, every attempt by "scientists" to reinterpret natural evidence to suit their ideas is just that: an attempt to interpret evidence. The same evidence they try to use, is the evidence that proves the Bible true.

Secondly, ask yourself this question: if the Bible was just a collection of "fairy-tales", as some people claim, why would any of the Jews even claim that they believe in the Old Testament? The Old Testament has all kinds of examples of their disobedience which, to most people, would be insulting. If there was never any evidence of the Bible's claims, why wouldn't they just claim it was a fairy-tale, and make up another book? For that matter, even if they wanted to keep it, why not change it to suit their purposes? That, of course, brings me to my next point...

Thirdly, there's no speculation. Every other religion's writings are well-known for adding what they don't know for a fact. Basically, they try to get you to believe that untested opinions are the truth. Not so with the Bible... if God didn't reveal it, and it didn't happen, it wasn't put in there. Nonbelievers call that alleged lack of information, "gaps in the story". It reminds me of an old line from a cop-show from the 1950's: "Just the facts, ma'am".

Finally, if you want to get anything immoral out of the Bible (why would anyone want that?), you have to do a LOT of scripture-twisting, and leave a LOT of scripture out. Where do you think the idea for the Inquisition came from? It came from the Catholic church's twisting of scripture, in an attempt to wipe out their competition: Bible-believing Christians. As one preacher once said, "A text, without the context, is a pretext for a proof-text." If you don't leave any scriptures out on a subject, and you don't twist any scriptures around, you won't go wrong. The same cannot be said for every other religion's writings.

There's an EXTREMELY LONG answer, and I hope it satisfied your question.

This thread was probably the most entertaining thing I have read in forever.

Just some thoughts for you crazy fanatic fucks.

What would save you if say, one of these billions of heathens, decided to pay a visit to your home, and tie you to a chair...then systematically slaughter your family... What would save you, THE ALMIGHTY BAPTISTS!!!!!!!!! From ANYTHING that fells man?

    Nothing...

    Why?

if there is a god, he hates you, me, and everyone else. You are all guilty of sins that you tell others they are going to hell for. The same hate, anger, malice, and overall just worthlessness that is humanity. I would rather live my life doing whatever I want, and go to hell for it, then waste my life following a book that reeks of man's corruption, and end up in hell/nothingness anyways. I personally hope god is real, and flays the skin from your bones personally for spreading your messages of hate, intolerance and idiocy, and I will be in hell with a smile on my face.

Seriously, you might has well just kill yourselves >.> put a smile on gods face for ME please?

It is true. You can follow the moral teachings of the Bible without believing in God. You'll still go to Hell, but at least you'll have tried your best.

However, I do have to wonder how you can claim with such certainty that your version of God is right when you have exactly as much prove as these Landover people - namely, NONE.
Of course he has no proof; he rejects the Bible.

If God is doing such a wonderful job protecting humanity from killing each other
See, if you'd read the Bible, you'd know that's not what God is doing. God likes a good slaughter every now and then. After all, they're almost all sinners.

then why are you in a war? Why did your friends die?
Because we had to remove the weapons of mass destruction from Iraq, plain and simple.

And in case you want to argue this is because of man's wickedness, please explain the similarly huge number of deaths caused by natural disasters.
Sometimes people on Earth are too slow to punish sinners, so God needs to move a hurricane to where it is needed the most.
