I meant that it was walking across the road and I tried to avoid hitting it. It ended up going where it was hit anyway. I did the ritual so that the soul of the oppossum would be able to rest in peace and return easily to the earth. That soul could be someone I know in the future.

I imagine a shredder or juicer would have more readily enabled the opossum's return to the earth, were that your goal. Or perhaps a thresher. (It sure worked on my Mary-loving parents.)

The ladies at the orphanage taught me never to waste meat given me by the Lord! In fact, every now and then a local country gentleman would pull up to the orphanage in his beat-up pickup truck, looking to drop off a load. I was more than happy to lend a hand, and we never once rejected a single strapping, sweaty redneck's meat . . . even if it had a tire mark or two on it!
