  • Videogames won the war on crime

Greeting, sentient lifeforms. What is your take on this article:
Catharsis: why Doom won the war on crime

The rational person asks “Is anybody being harmed?”
The puritan asks “Is somebody I don’t like having a good time?”

I’m a skeptic when it comes to the theory that digital zombies being shot leads to real-life violence....

Fact: games are getting more popular, more violent and/or realistic. Fact: the violent crime rate is still dropping, and it’s been dropping ever since around the time Doom came out.

Why is this? Well, before Doom, young men would go outside, join other young men, and together try to ignore one billion years of evolution urging them to kill everything male, impregnate everything female, and steal anything that might help them achieve the above….Today, young men are inside, playing games that let them live out their caveman instincts, shooting, looting and….Drinking hot coffee. In short, it’s catharsis.

For a century or so we’ve had the prison industry try their approach: take criminals and young men who get mistaken for criminals, then put them together in a building where there’s nothing to do but build muscles, join gangs, and learn how to commit crimes. How’s that been working out? We got a crime rate that rose, until Doom. Doom does the opposite: it takes the same young men, keeps them inside and alone, with no exercise. We’ve got no gangs, we’ve got no muscles, and let’s face it: after you’ve gibbed a bunch of imps with berserk strength, real-life crime looks pretty boring.
It’s enough to make me wonder if these anti-game activists are funded by the prison industry

Who said that statistics are lies, lies, and statistics? That's how I feel about your comment. There is nothing good that has come from kids playing violent death simulators like DOOM. There is no way that you can prove otherwise.
May you be a blessing to every life you touch.

Congradulations on out-debating those straw men you set up for yourself.

We do not "believe shooting digital zombies leads to real-life violence". We believe that young people shouldn't have time for videogames of any kind, because they should be doing chores, praying, or in boot camp.

We do not think prison is the answer to crime. The answer to crime is the chain-gang, the cotton field, the deportation ship heading to Africa, and the noose.

That's the video game generation for you. Good at stomping turtles, but can't even try to argue with an actual human being. Go back to "fapping" in your mother's basement you pizza-faced loser.
Disagree? By failing to register and debate me, you prove that liberals are factless frauds who only persuade through intimidation. To prove otherwise, debate me!

I cannot believe that you are actually defending these twisted murder simulations, it has been made clear on these forums that video games only lead to Hell. I suggest you get out your KJV1611 Bible and accept Jesus Christ into your heart. Perhaps you will realize the truth about these 'games'.

Fact: The term "young men" is used five times in one short article. It all sounds like pedophilic propaganda and bum-chummery to me.

OK let's twist this back on you.

Fact -- your heathen scientists believe in evolution.
Fact -- violent criminals are killing either other and dying quickly from drugs.
Fact -- the gene pool is being cleansed of genetic violent tendencies.
Conclusion -- Violent crime is going down because evolution favors passive sheep who can reproduce in copious amounts (when they are not getting off to hentai).

            See how that works?

Although video games are quite violent, don't you think that violent video games could, in a way, keep kids from killing each other in real life and instead kill one anothers video game characters, making crime go down...

You should probably swing by the Introduction forum before getting your feet wet in the main forums.

And to answer your question; we don't believe in violence. Except in the cases where God instructs us to be violent. Then we are violent in His name.

Its true Violent Crime has dropped since the arrival of video games. These statistics are better proof than a work of fiction like the bible could ever be. In order to be good Christians we have to evolve into something more/

First of all, this is NOT a debate forum. Please read THIS thread before making an even bigger fool of yourself.

Secondly, while the internets might seem to be "free" to you, this particular corner of the internets is a privately owned Christian forum. The rights you have on this forum are listed HERE. Please contact a Pastor if you feel that any of your rights have been violated.

Finally, your unsaved opinions or tantrums are not even slightly of interest to us. We follow the Holy Word of God TO THE LETTER, and make no apologies for that. One of the most important commandments in the Bible tells us to avoid unsaved scum such as yourself. You wandered in here uninvited, and unwelcome.

I will pray that the Holy Spirit enter you and chase the demons out of your rectum and let Jesus fill you with His Grace. If you use your God-given free will to reject Christ and His temporary death on the cross for my sins, then you are sending yourself to hellfire.
                    Who Will Jesus Damn?

Here is a partial list from just a few scripture verses:

Talk about profiling, singling out a single demographic group for blame. And way to whitewash the horrific acts of the pink-pistol packing lebian gangs that Bill O-Rielly has been trying to warn us about.

                      WOAH, speak for yourself.

When I see a female turtle crawl by, I do not try to impregnate it. No matter how shiny and round her shell is. Has not happened once.

Sometimes I've been known to stomp on a turtle, but it's not like anyone has made a video game about THAT.

On the subject of Bill O'Reilly and turtle-impregnation, I can't help but notice a family resemblance:

That's not how beastiality works. Beastiality results in monsters being born, not normal creatures who just happen to have an uncanny resemblance.

Anyway, I have two words that blow away all your fancy egghead "statistics" and "facts": Columbine Massacre.

Was that the one where they killed all the people by clubbing them with keyboards and mice, or the one where they strangled them with the cords?

....Because the NRA never made that part completely clear.

                              The second one.

Or maybe they used the wi-fi rays to give people zap people and give them cancer, I don't recall exactly. They say if you can remember the 90's you weren't really there. Or at least they say they say that. I don't say they say that. They don't say I say I say that.
