When a parent's will and the Lord's will disagree

I am a young college student. The Lord is calling me to apply for a program through my Baptist campus group where I would spend next summer break doing mission work in Romania, installing clean water systems and working in vision clinics. My mother does not believe this to be a good idea. I want to honor my mother, but when she started using curse words when we were discussing the program, I was hurt. At the same time, if I do not apply for this program I feel like I would be disobeying God. My father, to whom my mother is not married, believes this to be an excellent opportunity to serve. What should I do in circumstances when a parent's advice counteracts God's will?

Rest assured you are doing the right thing going to Romania to convert those papists and gypsies. Jesus Himself acknowledged that His Word is far more important than that of your earthly parents...

Luke 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

If your father tells you it's a good idea, do it. Open and shut case.
Christians are superior because we possess an understanding that unbelievers lack. It is through the Power of Jesus only the converted mind is able to understand what is going on in the world; what the Communists are really up to; what Satan's intentions are. Most unbelievers do not even believe in Satan and cannot understand his tactics.

Of course you must go and do the Lord's work. Your mother is after all, just an empty headed female, not like she has much value. That said, you may care about her (pointless as it is) and want to try and Save© her. Your mother may well be pushing Satan's agenda. I suggest contacting your Pastor and discussing it with him. It is possible, your mother needs to have extensive counseling to get her mind right. But if you feel she is
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

Re: When a parent's will and the Lord's will disagree

I know the answers to this one I think.

          First

          Matthew 15:4 4
For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.
          Then

          Ephesians 5:22-24
22Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
Hey Im gettin pretty good with learnin my way round this 1611 King James Bible Pastor Merle gave me!

So I think dad wins and you get to go to Godless Romania and win souls for Jesus after all. But Pastor Merle over to the morning star Baptist church over here in Davenport hes frettin about you bein there in Romania cause he says theres nothin but vampires and gypsys there and you better be ready to defend yourself specially at night and use plenty of garlic.
GOT DEMONS? WE CAN HELP! THEY'RE EVERYWHERE AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO FIGHT THEM ALONE! JESUS WANTS YOU TO BE RID OF THEM ONCE AND FOR ALL! YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO IT ALONE! LET US HELP YOU RIGHT AWAY!
