Gee, a witch uses a "bedknob" to win some children's favor; I can't imagine what the symbolism is there. You seem mighty keen on this flick Dance with Joy. Since I value my peace of mind I really don't want to know why.

I'm keen on anything that encourages kids to use their imaginations.

The bedknob was given to the kid by his father. So using it to fight the forces of evil (that would be the Nazis) was a way of keeping alive his bond with his father.
