As we all know, we face scary times today as the landscape of the world is shifting ever more to the secular side. Laws that we thought that would never believe would be abandoned are becoming just that every day. One of these laws is the criminalization of marijuana. Several states have legalized use for medicinal reasons, which seems absurd to myself, and some are trying to legalize it outright. This is where my question begins, if the United States government for whatever reason legalized the "recreational" use of marijuana, would using it be a sin.
I bring the legalization issue into the argument because I've heard many times that current use of the drug is a sin because it is illegal, and Romans 13:1 states "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God." I do know that just because something is legal, doesn't mean it is not a sin, such as homosexuality.
I for one believe that such use, even if it were legal, would still be a sin as Romans 12:1 says "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." And a stoned hippy is by no means an acceptable sacrifice to the Lord.
I still find this question rather interesting and would like to know how people who know the Word of God better than myself feel about this theoretical question.
