I do not know where you got these figures from, and with me living in Australia I am not in a position to dispute them.

HOWEVER the figures quoted are death rates. Once someone is dead they are no longer a burden on society. That is an undeniable fact.

Australia is a hand out state. A very generous social security system for those who choose not to work. Now, looking at your dodgy statistics lets for a minute look at the burden on society. Like I said, dead folk cost nothing to maintain their level of deadness.

So, how many folk in Australia are claiming social security because of tobacco related illness. Yep. A few. But most of them are on the old age pension which they would be on anyway with or without emphysema. Poor diet and physical inactivity. Sure. We have obesity down under and some folk who are totally incapacitated and on social security as a consequence. Alcohol. Yep. Similarly. Microbial agents. Childhood meningoccocal is rare but does happen. Less so now since immunisations. Toxic agents. Yep. Asbestos miners. Suicide. Nup. No longer a burden to tax payers ..... OK. You get where I am heading with this. (I hope.)

Now, you look at the number of patients in mental health services and hospitals with marijuana induced psychosis. Add to that those with drug induced schizophrenia. Then the car accidents caused by stoned idiots getting behind the wheel. The aggression. The fights. The number of presntations to our Emergency Departments from folk off their face. The failure rate of detox and residential rehab.

Like I say. I do not know whether your death stats are real or phoney. But I do know that dead folk cost nothing to keep them that way.
