I am sorry for my long absence from this lovely forum. I am also sorry for posting on such an old topic.

So, I denied my son the guitar. He was not very happy. I sent him to his desk to study the Bible.

Anyway, months later, I hear some demonic racket coming from his room. I burst into the room (with the fear that he may have just gotten raped by the devil) to find something horrible. He was banging his head to the electric guitar that burst through the speakers. Next to his CD player (I have no idea where he acquired one) was an empty jewel case. I picked it up, and it had the devil on it! The album was the Number of the Beast by the satanic sex-metal players known as Iron maiden. If you want to know how horrible the cover is, well:




Horrified I grabbed my KJV Bible and smacked him. Here's the problem though: I hit him with the power of Jesus so hard, that the Bible itself fell apart! I felt terrible. I have repented over and over. How should I feel about this?

Also, I removed any evidence of this from his life, and replaced it with Christian friendly things.

Oh no, I don't think anything could can come of parents trying to mimic Satan. But the boy will be tempted in life.

Would it be better he be tempted in a minor fashion and learn the Devil's ways while surrounded by those who can keep him from abandoning the light? Or would it be better for him to remain sheltered and ignorant from the Devil's trick, only to be led astray later in life?

This is why you need to flee from your papist cult. You're being taught a false gospel. A True Christian™ cannot be led astray.

The parent is wise to make sure the child knows obedience to Jesus is nothing to take lightly. Any deviation from that is to serve the wrong master - Satan.

You are correct Billy, it is not up to anyone to make excuses for their children.

However unless I am mistaken there is no verse where the Lord tells us that the guitar is a tool of Satan. So if his son starts playing the guitar and begins to commit the abominations that you described... Well honestly it means that he didn't have the strength to resist those temptations in the first place and would have committed them in either case.

If his Father, his Mother, and his Pastor have done what they should have and instilled the word of God into him there is nothing to worry about. If not then we can only hope the Lord will step in, save him, and punish those who did not fulfill their duty.

So we should tempt our children like Satan tempted Jesus?

Perhaps you might try a somewhat different approach.

Sit your son down and ask him why he wants to play the guitar. If you agree with his reasons (him wanting to learn a song about Jesus, wanting to play for his grandmother, etc) then allow him too but keep an eye on him. If you simply ban it then he might be even more inclined to find a way to play it (Forbidden Fruit anyone?).

He might gain a deeper understanding of the lord, help others find Jesus, and who knows what other things. But odds are he'll play it for about a month, get bored and never touch it again while you come out smelling like roses.

And if you are worried about him being tempted by the devil I am sure if you have raised him right he will know to make the right choices.

Hell, anyone? We are not supposed to compromise with our children we are supposed to teach them about Christ and teach them to reject things that will send them to Hell.

And yeah right, who knows..he'll probably end up fornicating, drug abusing and God only knows what other abominations.

You are not a good parent if you make excuses for all the sinful behaviour of your children.

It depends on what type of music you're talking about. I've recently taken up the trumpet so that I can make a joyful noise unto the LORD. Scripture also indicates that, for example, harps, cornets and singing can be used to glorify God.

Psalm 98:4-6
Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.
Sing unto the LORD with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.
With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King.

It really depends on what type of music you're talking about and what its intent is. If you are playing an instrument mentioned in the Bible and you are making music to glorify God, then I don't think anyone can reproach you for that. In fact, I think it would be a great idea to put some of the psalms to music.

Just be careful that your choice of music is indeed Godly. We are to have nothing to with the worldliness of the unsaved (I John 2:15, James 4:4). For example, you have to be particularly careful with so-called "Christian Rock."

Thank you! That actually answers my question. The instrument that I play is the acoustic and classical guitar, and I sing acoustic tracks; no rock and roll, no hip hop, just music. It's very calm, in my opinion.

Was that a serious question? If you want me to I can, sure. I'm being 110% sincere. I get the rock part. I get where the origins of that notion come from. I understand. But I'm wondering about other music. On the page that was linked to me, it mentions music in general, briefly, music as a whole. I'm wondering where that comes from.

And, furthermore, I've read the Bible twice and I can't recall any scripture that says that there's anything wrong with music. So I'm legitimately wondering.

I'm also interested because I'm pursuing a career to become a producer of music. I'm a singer, and I'm legitimately wondering what's wrong with it. This isn't me being insincere, or rude, it's me wondering and asking.
