        Re: Tell me about Jesus!

Hi, Caucasian_Male, for a church the Landover Baptists don't tend to waste time proselytizing to the Unsaved. This is for a few good reasons which will become apparent the more you learn.

So, since you haven't gotten many replies I will dispell a few misconceptions about Jesus.

His Jewish name was actually Jeshua ben Joseph, and he was a Mage. Since he was raised to be a powerful rabbi and could trace his ancestry back to King David, his existence caused a great amount of political consternation for those in power. He gained a reputation in his lifetime of being a great reformer of the Judaic Temple cults. By that I mean he put a stop to the swindling of pilgrims and the sacrificing of animals on Temple grounds for the atonement of sins. Ironically enough, after he was martyred, he became the embodiment of the Scapegoat System which was embraced by the Greeks and exported throughout the world.

Jesus' teachings in the Bible are quite interesting. False Christians say "Jesus wants peace." But Jesus said (Matthew 10:34)"I have come not to bring peace but a fiery sword" and (Luke12:49)"I have come to bring fire to the earth, and oh how I wish it were kindling already".

False Christians believe that Jesus is Love. But Jesus said (Luke 12:46)"If anyone does not hate his father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters, and yes, even his own life, he cannot be my disciple."

Ignorant Christians do not like hearing the ancient Hebrew Law outlined in Exodus, Leviticus and Deuteronomy. When they hear Bible verses endorsing slavery or commanding parents to stone their own children with stones, they say "Well, that's the Old Testament. I only believe in the New Testament because all I have to do is believe in Jesus and he rendered all the Old stuff obsolete." But Jesus said (Matthew 5:17-5:18) "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law of Moses or the Prophets. In truth I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one jot or letter will pass away from The Law."

Non-Christians who want to believe in a cool Jesus whose words of love and understanding have been twisted when he was deified like to say "Jesus was a hippie, communist Jew". But Jesus uses the Parable of the Harsh Master (Luke 19) to tell send a message that is quite the opposite of meek inheriting the earth or hippie commie values. In fact, the punchline is a solid endorsement of Reaganomics: 'The king replied, "I tell you that everyone who has will be given more, but from the one who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away."'

I hope that these passages give you insight on how to act next time you are advised to "be more Christ-like".
        Isaiah 45:6-7:
"...I am the LORD and there is none else. I form the light and create darkness. I make peace an create evil. I the LORD do all these things." (KJV)

I'd like to see Biblical evidence in support of that wild claim.

All of that is spot-on. Well done, Mr. Adversary. You don't seem very adversarial today.
O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it--for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.

God being truth, justice, goodness, beauty, power, and life, man is falsehood, iniquity, evil, ugliness, impotence, and death. God being master, man is the slave. Incapable of finding justice, truth, and eternal life by his own effort, he can attain them only through a divine revelation... he who desires to worship God must harbor no childish illusions about the matter, but bravely renounce his liberty and humanity.

            .
My evidence is rather simple. Jesus was tutored as a Mage; after all, he was visited in the manger by three of the Magi, and he was also indoctrinated in the Talmudic branch of Judaism. Although he gained a reputation later in life as a radical reformer, he was clearly a multiclass Rabbi/Mage. We can tell because he was known for performing some pretty keen magic tricks such as turning water into wine (arcane magic), multiplying fish and bread (arcane magic), walking on water (arcane magic), healing lepers (divine magic), and performing exorcisms (divine magic).

These are all pretty cool magicks; perhaps he was not quite as accomplished in the field as David Copperfield or Moses (I am personally more impressed by the parting of a sea and turning staves to snakes in cleric duels) but still his name went down in history for a reason.

I wanted to see how well the Landover Baptists could answer. And they seem to have answered quite well so far.

Actually, his Jewish name was Yeshua Ha'Mashiach. We just got Jesus Christ from when they were translating the Hebrew Bible over to Greek.

                You fail.

                  Re: Tell me about Jesus!

The way hate is used in that verse is out of context. Biblical Hebrew didn't have the complexities of language that English has. Terms such as 'love more' and 'love less' and things such as 'first' and 'second' were taken to extremes like love and hate, and first and last. The comparative meaning of a lot of words were lost in translation as English has a more literal definition of words rather than associative meanings as was used in Hebrew.

Mm,hmm. And John McCain "loves Gooks less" than the rest of us? Who decides when we should equivalate and when we should actually take the words at face value? You?

Also, if you namby pamby apologists were to rewrite the Bible in "more complex" language, wouldn't you have to soften the language in both directions?

Nah, WoW is the Wal-Mart of computer games. lowest common denominator and all. Multiclassing like Christ would be too complex.
