My feelings on Fred Phelps death.

I know we're all going to mourn Fred's passing. I can't imagine anyone more than us mourning it.

His message was simple and straightforward. You couldn't mistake his dire warning to the world.



In these end times, we need this message of comfort. We are on the verge of giving these people rights to marry and inheritance. The prophet may have died, but his message of civil rights rings loudly now more than ever! Gays are a menace to society that we are so close to losing the war against.

Our relaxed attitudes on who can have s-e-x with who, giving over to the devil's weed and socialized medicine signal the end! This time the rapture is really near!

It just breaks my heart to know that Reverend Fred won't be here to see the looks on the unsaved faces when they see us float up to the sky to be with Jesus on that happy day.

But it does make me happy to know that, despite our occasional differences, he is sitting on the right hand of Jesus Christ Himself ready to judge those entering heaven.

Reverend, we will see you soon in heaven and you will be missed.

My heart goes out to Shirley and the rest of the kids. First they lost a country (when the Supreme "Court" allowed gay "marriage")...Now, they have lost a father.

But it's times like this that faith holds a family together...I hope they will be up on their feet and picketing again soon.

I know what I'm about to say will not be popular, but I need to say it.

Fred Phelps did terrible things.

Fred Phelps twisted Christianity into something Jesus and the apostles never intended it to be.

Fred Phelps twisted and distorted Christianity so it fit with his radical social agenda.

Fred Phelps allowed women to speak in church.

I believe brother FM is correct. A sin is a sin. If he asked Jesus for forgiveness for his sins before he died, he's surely beside Him in Glory. If not, he is on the end of pitchfork roasting like a marshmallow in the same campfire as fags he so eloquently exposed.

There's also the unfortunate fact that Fred never formally joined the Landover Baptist Church©, though he often reassured us he saw things "Our Way".

I know some of the pastors and Male Elders flew out to Kansas just this week when I think Fred summoned them for a deathbed conversion, but whether they reached him in time I do not know.

Allowing women to preach in church is not the only thing Phelps did wrong. Let's not forget all the race baiting he did in order to foment unrest among the lesser races.

Civil rights cases

Phelps earned a law degree from Washburn University in 1964, and founded the Phelps Chartered law firm.[18] The first notable cases were related to civil rights. "I systematically brought down the Jim Crow laws of this town," he claims.[9] Phelps' daughter was quoted as saying, "We took on the Jim Crow establishment, and Kansas did not take that sitting down. They used to shoot our car windows out, screaming we were nigger lovers," and that the Phelps law firm made up one-third of the state's federal docket of civil rights cases.[19]

Phelps took cases on behalf of African-American clients alleging racial discrimination by school systems, and a predominantly black American Legion post which had been raided by police, alleging racially based police abuse.[20] Phelps' law firm obtained settlements for some clients.[21] Phelps also sued President Ronald Reagan over Reagan's appointment of a U.S. ambassador to the Vatican, alleging this violated separation of church and state. The case was dismissed by the U.S. district court.[21][22] Phelps' law firm, staffed by himself and family members also represented non-white Kansans in discrimination actions against Kansas City Power and Light, Southwestern Bell, and the Topeka City Attorney, and represented two female professors alleging discrimination in Kansas universities.[19]

In the 1980s, Phelps received awards from the Greater Kansas City Chapter of Blacks in Government and the Bonner Springs branch of the NAACP, for his work on behalf of black clients.[21]

Yes, it was a long time ago, but he never did apologize for it.

You know, something's been bugging me about that yearbook pic of Fred, and since it's been slow in the office, I called one of the DOF "profiler" artists in here to tweak it with their computer image matching programs....

And you know, with the enhancements, he looks EXACTLY like his mom Cathy, back in the day!
