    Mr. Gallagher and Mr. Shean

    The german jew and the white gentleman spoke by telephone
    in this newly penned characteristic verse designed to remind.

    Who were they?

    Oh Mr. Gallagher?

    Yes, hello?

    Oh Mr. Gallagher!

    Yes, yes, yes!

    I think the Christian world is nearly on the blink.

    Oh, you do?

    Yes!
    They have read what God has wrote
    but then in church they go emote
    for-get-ting all about the infants He has smote.

    Hah hah hah!
    Why, Mr. Shean, why Mr. Shean,
    the Lord above is a cease-less
    kill-ing machine;
    He should incinerate all France...
    ...so long He does not scorch my pants...

    That's another dirty question
    God will launder,
    Mr. Shean!

    Positively, Mr. Gallagher?

    Absolutely, Mr. Shean!

    Mister Shean was Groucho's uncle.

    Here are Jackie Gleason and Groucho Marx doing a send-up

        I loved that! I'd never seen or heard the song before.

        Thank you so much for harking up that angel who was Jimmy Durante.

        From Gallagher and Shean's one-hit-wonder Victor recording of 1922,
        a recall by personal memory of their lyric from the shellac disk:

        Mister Gallagher, oh Mister Gallagher,
        Women's Rights is turning out to be a joke.
        They've been given the right to vote
        but just to get your goat
        in public places now
        they demand the right to smoke.

        You don't know the half of it--
        Why Mister Shean, why Mister Shean,
        they also love to gamble on the green;
        they indulge in games of chance where you can lose your shirt and pants...

        I'm speaking of women Mr. Gallagher!
        That makes no difference Mr. Shean!

        and this:

        ...There was a tiny negro baby born last night
        No! Yes!
        Just popped out at eight;
        weighed a half-a-pound I think.
        How can a baby be so dark and yet so light?
        Why Mister Shean, why Mister Shean,
        that is the funniest colored skin I've ever seen.
        But I know a hen as black as night
        and she can lay an egg that's white...

        Why that's nothing, Mr. Gallagher.
        No? Can you do it, Mr. Shean?

        Thanks Zeke. You're the best.
