We all know that, being Presbyterian, Donald Trump can't be a True Christian™. However, he's now claiming to be a Real Christian™. One problem: He has taken a complete 180 turn on nearly every political position he's had.

While I sure do like the things he's saying now, I can't help but wonder: Has the leopard changed his spots? Or is he a wolf in furry's clothing?

The Donald has done quite a job reinventing himself. Back in 2000, he considered a run on Perot’s Reform Party ticket. In the old days, he favored universal health care and a 14.25% one-time tax on all people with a net worth in excess of $10M. He also believed (in 2000) that abortion was a woman’s right; hate crimes against gays should be prosecuted; gun ownership should be restricted; and trade with China should be contingent on resolution of human rights issues. He spoke supportively about civil unions and gay rights. He was very nearly what some would call a progressive.
That was then, this is now. Today, the Tea Party is made up of low- and lower-middle-income people who think that maybe someday they too will be rich, and so don’t want to risk anybody being able to tax their hypothetical future wealth. Never mind that things like the universal health care Trump once supported would make it easier for the Tea Partiers to, say, start their own businesses. Other Tea Partiers are retirees who want government to get its greedy hands off their [Social Security and Medicare], and instead eliminate someone else’s socialist welfare and wealth-redistribution programs . . . someone younger, and often with a funny-sounding last name.
The man who once asserted that US foreign military actions should be contingent upon UN approval now says he would maintain a military presence in Iraq — you know, the country we were “liberating” — and seize their oil fields, because “to the victor belong the spoils.” Think the UN would approve?
The Donald has firmly announced himself to be pro-life, anti-gay marriage, anti-civil union, and anti-health care reform. He also recently switched from Democrat (2001-2009) to Republican.
