Just because a local Republican Congressman uses a popular colloquialism to explain why the stingy joos controlling the insurance agencies need to clean up their act, it doesn't follow that he's a racist!

Texas Lawmaker Apologizes for Jewish Comment

A Texas state lawmaker has apologized for reportedly using the phrase "Jew them down" during an official hearing.

State Rep. Larry Taylor, a Republican running for state Senate, apparently used the term while chiding the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association Thursday about the need to pay claims promptly. "Don't nitpick, don't try to Jew them down -- that's probably a bad term," he said, according to the Texas political website Quorum Report.

Taylor has since apologized for the comment. In a letter Friday to the southwest branch of the Anti-Defamation League, Taylor said he used a "terrible choice of words" which does not reflect his beliefs.

"I understand the impact of my comments and am deeply sorry for the message that was sent," he said in the letter, obtained by FoxNews.com.

The Texas Tribune also reported that Taylor apologized for the comment on Thursday, as some complained that it was an offensive way for him to express an otherwise legitimate point about paying claimants for wind damage.

"At a legislative oversight committee hearing today, I inadvertently used a phrase that many people find offensive," Taylor said in his earlier statement. "I corrected myself immediately when I realized what I had said. I regret my poor choice of words and sincerely apologize for any harm they may have caused."

It's a figure of speech. He obviously wasn't thinking of actual Jews when he said it. No one batted an eye at Deaner's "nigger in the woodpile" remark at last week's council meeting—what's the difference here?

Hey, I don't like to get jewed down, and I don't know anyone who does!

No-one likes to get gypped either. There was an opportunity for both these "offensive" terms to be consigned to history during the 1930s-40s. That opportunity was missed but in time the world will realize what needs to be done, a bit like with the 2nd Iraq war. First time we messed up, second time was the charm.

That's the least offensive "Jewish comment" I've ever heard. If he'd said "shabbat shalom" or "mazel tov" or something I could understand people getting upset, but this is actually bizarre. Obviously you have a different understanding of racism than I do. It baffles me how you can say you are not a racist and use the words "jig, beaner, gook, chink or towelhead" in the same paragraph. Those are racial slurs. Do we at least agree on that? Do you enjoy using the words, knowing that the people you use them against find them hurtful? If you do, that's a racist attitude. How do you square that with the claim that you are not racist? Do you think you are talking the way Jesus would talk and therefore nothing you say can be racist? Why not admit that you believe God is a white supremacist? Why not just say you are racist because God is racist?

And yes, even the lesser races CAN be saved. You'd have to be a racist to think otherwise.

If the "lesser races" (another racial slur) can be saved, what is their place in Heaven? Does God continue to punish them for being what they are or are all racial distinctions wiped out? So you consider yourself exempt from charges of racism because you believe they can be saved!

I believe we are all equal in death. There are no saved and unsaved because there is nothing to save us from.

It may be obvious to you that you and others can say the things you do and Landover can still be innocent of racism. It baffles me, as it would baffle any naive outsider, racist or not, Christian or not.

I have been accused here of being a racist. I think it's because I have been made out to be black and any black person who looks cross-eyed at a white person will instantly be labeled racist. I've also been made out to be Canadian and told that Canadians are racist (present complany excluded, of course). By my own lights I am not racist. I don't use any of the racial slurs that you use, nor the word "n*gger" which True Christians™ at Landover use over and over. When I used it, to protest how I was being treated on this board, I got an infraction and another (permanent) one for whining about it. I consider all races equal and I am tolerant of all religions even though I disagree with them. I believe in tearing down racial barriers rather than building them up.

If you are capable of interpreting my attitudes as racist, I can see how you would be quite capable of reading a white supremacist interpretation into the Bible you claim to interpret literally.

Just because y'all don't like me and I'm saying things about race you don't want to hear, that doesn't make me a racist.
