  • Cost of a home in New York

Mayoral hopefuls red-faced after guessing New York housing costs

“I don’t know for sure. I would guess it is around $100,000” [said] Shaun Donovan, the housing and urban development secretary under Barack Obama.

Ray McGuire, a wealthy former Citigroup executive, guessed that the median sales price was “somewhere in the $80,000 to $90,000 range, if not higher”.
That sounds about right to rent somewhere half decent. What's the liberal fuss all about?

I don't understand what the fuss is about. It's so very easy to make a slip of the tongue when dealing with numbers. Back last summer, a British woman politician announced during a press briefing on live television that there had been "three hundred thousand and thirty four, nine hundred and seventy four thousand" covid tests carried out in the UK.

There was a lot of cruel criticism, but nobody has ever actually proved that 300,034,974,000 was incorrect, or denied that every member of the population had then been tested around 4,500 times.
