A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back
To feel one's father (whom we love in a manly fashion befitting is status as GOD's instrument in our upbringing) thinking of us as a horse.

I was never beaten up as a kid purely because I used to take a knife to school with me.
None of the kids wanted to be stabbed by the little goth boy so they left me alone, explains why my only friends were drug addicts and bastard children.
