Add this one to the list of toys to be avoided at Christmas:
Madame Alexander introduced her "grown-up" fashion doll Cissy in 1955. She was the first fashion doll with arched feet that could wear high heeled shoes.
With her “hundreds of gorgeous gowns and accessories”, she was also one of the first dolls specifically marketed to entice older brothers into the “joys” of transvestitism. Notice the repeated use of the gender-neutral word “child” in Madam Alexander’s own quote about Sissy/Cissy:
"Every little girl dreams of being grown-up. There is no one who hasn't seen a child walking around in mother's high heels. A bra, too, and a dress or negligee can turn a hum-drum play day into a wonderful land of make-believe for a child…."
Please join me in creating a petition so this horrid plaything will be taken off the market forever!
