So I was thinking about Methuselah today, and as we know, he lived to the ripe old age of 969
Which means he lived to almost a full SIXTH of the age of the Earth!
But where he really, truly illustrates God's infinite love and mercy wasn't in the length of his life but in his death.
While there are some disagreements amongst scholars, it is believed that Methuselah died a week before the Great Flood. While this part isn't in the Bible, it makes perfect sense. Not wanting Methuselah to die with all the unsaved trash worldwide, God killed him in advance. Not just a day earlier, but a FULL WEEK!
This loving time period gave Methuselah's friends and family seven whole days to mourn his passing before God drowned most of them (Noah and family excepted) along with every other man, woman, and child on the planet!
A tear is coming to my eye right now thinking of how full of love, mercy, and compassion the Lord is.
