...as I am with ppl who com in her talkg lolcatspk or txtspk insted of proper American?
As one who respects and loves God's, and our, beautiful native language, this makes me furious! It flies in the face of simple decency. Honestly, is it so difficult to learn even the basics of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence construction?
And it's always the silly little trolls and flamers who are guilty of this offense. We True Christians ™ are, on the whole, well-spoken, literate, and more than able to clearly express ourselves. Our superior command of the language is testimony to our faith in and love for our Lord Jesus, for He guides our hands as they move over our keyboards to spread His Word in this Godly forum. For example, look at Poetic Peter's and One-Eyed Jack's contributions--pure lyricism and harmony!
And people from other lands, like Scheherezade! S/he may have issues, but her English is flawless! Brother Lindh, the same. Brother Remy, our fine ex-Negro, and Brother Joshua Brooks--if their histories were unknown to us, there would be no way to discern their ghetto-fied backgrounds. And think of the obstacles these people had to overcome to learn to speak the proper language of the Lord! Yet these little pagans and heathens who were, for the most part, privileged to have been born either here in America or in another country where a reasonable facsimile (i.e., understandable by Americans) of English is spoken cannot be troubled to put in the minimal effort required to learn its simple rules! Jesus weeps!
Can anything, anything at all, be done about this? Is there any way to limit the access of these unsaved, unwashed, trashy, ignorant "ppl" to this board unless and until they learn the rudimentary rules of American English? Or perhaps to issue them infraction points for their sub-par language skills? I'm not asking for perfection from them; in most cases, from what I'm seeing, that would be impossible, given their limited intellectual capabilities. I would only ask that they perhaps learn to use spellcheck and, occasionally, a thesaurus. I would even be willing to explain to them what the latter is and how it is used.
Oh, I nearly forgot to mention our dearest Sister Petal. Here is a person who grew up under conditions of extreme adversity, with no formal education, and is literally self-taught in reading. Her English is not technically perfect, but it is clear and concise and she uses literary and visual devices to make her points, and no one who reads her posts has the slightest trouble understanding what she is saying. How does she do this? By sheer will and dedication. Time and effort. The need to communicate with her fellow Christians. She is an inspiration to us all.
I'm considering just automatically putting the "great unwashed" interlopers on my "Ignore" list where I simply would not have to deal with them, but I would not want to do something so drastic and possibly un-Christian without consulting with our Pastors and other members of this Godly congregation.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Please feel free to jump in!
