Please, pray for calm and reason to prevail in Scotland

Yes. This is Harsha Shah. Good morning.

You probably know that last night we had a referendum vote in Scotland. "Should Scotland be an independent country?" For me this was very difficult. I wish to say "yes" to everything and in this case saying yes to one thing would have meant saying "n"o to another. I was finding it very hard to understand all the consequences and without reason I would have made an emotional vote. So I was not voting yesterday but many of my friends were. Not many people have been sleeping last night and I was out partying with friends. I am afraid I am a bit tipsy, bad karma, eh? Yes.

But I am serious. This is a bad situation. I have been reading here that you christians here have a lot of trust on your prayers. And it could turn out bad. As I write this the last results are coming in. Yes, it is a No. Yes, definitely. Most of the country said no, but Dundee was yes and Glasgow said yes. Aberdeen no. My council has not yet declared its vote. But it is a no for independence.

Majority reject Scottish first minister Alex Salmond's plan to become a separate nation and choose to stay in UK

Please pray that people remain calm. There is a lot of disappointment and upset. Yes. It can lead to violence. There is a lot of relief and the wish to ridicule and mock those who lost. Pray for those who lost to remain calm and keep on living. Pray for the winners to be gracious and give comfort and affection to those who lost. Yes. And pray for non-violence for everybody. Yes. And please pray that non-violence spreads and more and more people in my country become vegetarians and give up their knives and weapons and for a strong government that can implement these issues. Yes. Thank you.

It's true--when Scots lose, they do tend to get their kilts in a bunch. I'll say the prayer, but I don't know if God will answer it, because He knows that I don't care what happens in Scotland all that much, and I don't think God cares all that much, either.

Everyone knows the Scottish kilt has been designed with only one purpose in mind: anal sex.

I wouldn't worry to much about that. Scotsmen are either drunk or busy having anal sex.

No, Harsha Shah, No. I will not be seduced by your request to pray for Scotland. 1 Timothy 4:1-2. To pretend to care would be insincere, No?

I am sure I speak for both sides of the debate when I say I am extremely glad to hear that. Isaiah 44:18.

Yesterday evening, while there was still some optimism about the result here south of the border, my husband set our three eldest boys the task of listing the consequences of a Yes vote for England. I will not reproduce all of it here, for reasons of space, but here is a representative sample:
        • The climate would be warmer, drier and sunnier.
        • We would not have to put our clocks back in October to satisfy some Edinburgh shepherd who is too cheap to buy a torch.
        • The average height of the population would go up.
        • The average weight of the population would go down.
        • Heart disease would be reduced by approximately 83%.
        • Gingerism would be significantly reduced.
        • Sectarianism would be eliminated on the mainland.
        • The standard of cooking would improve.
        • The West Loathing question would be solved.

Please pray that people remain calm. There is a lot of disappointment and upset.
Here too, dear. Here too! The solution surely is for England to secede from the union, leaving Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as the United Kingdom with Bonnie Prince Charlie III as their king. We are campaigning for a referendum on this.

        Yours in Faith,

Yes. Thank you for participating. Also my council district voted no. Union is remaining. And now I am thinking, the 'no' to independence is a bigger 'yes'. Yes, it is. It is a yes to less borders, united Europe, common understanding, fighting against poverty and injustice. A world without borders. It was a good no. Yes. But things have not been good. In Glasgow there is fighting. The winners did what I was afraid of, boasting, mocking those who lost. That is violence. Please pray agaist it. Yes.

Police make six arrests after separating groups of rival Unionists and independence supporters in George Square in the centre of Glasgow.

And our prime minister has resigned, upset and disappointed, not willing to work with the winners. This is bad, a question of pride and prestige, not reason.

Re: Please, pray for calm and reason to prevail in Scotland

I've been reading about the late lamented Revd. Dr Ian Paisley (may peace be upon him), and have learnt much. I am worried that one of my Landover brothers might shout at me, though, because the Good Doctor started out Baptist and ended up founding his own Presbyterian church. But he had some really good ideas - particularly the one about banning Protestant schoolkids from dressing up as nuns in a performance of the Sound of Music (http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/...y-9730851.html).

From his teachings, I now know it was mostly Catholics who voted Yes, to allow Scotland to secede to Rome and enable the Papist Reconquista of Albion! Glasgow and Dundee are full of them! No wonder the defeated heretic "Nos" are bathing full deep in the Devil's Buttermilk! They are drinking to burst of it at the plump teat of the Scarlet Woman of Rome, to quench the bitter thirst that the foiling of their plot has wrought.

Yes yes yes yes. No. Not supposed to drink alcohol. Many beers have animal stuff, lactose, lactone. It is not good to be intoxicated, it is indulgence, yes. I have been a bad girl oh, yes. I am learning things. Beamish is a better stout than Guiness, eh? Yes. I know, it will be a bad day tomorrow. Bad karma, very bad karma yes.

Romans epistle, 9, It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak. Pure Jainism, this one, eh? Like wine for us. Always forbidden, sometimes mandatory. Or the hamburger my friedns treated me. Always forbidden, sometimes mandatory. Harsha's not been good and tomorrow's gonna be bad but Scotland is still having fun tonight.

It is like the eucharist of your faith. Wine. Sometimes mandatory. Yes yes yes. Let's hope no more violence.

You are reading this entirely out of context. Paul is suggesting to the faithful that they avoid eating & drinking that which may offend the new Jewish converts to Christianity. He is not saying for us not to eat these things. In fact he made it quite clear what he thought of vegan shrub munchers just shortly earlier.

Romans 14:2 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.

Paul knew that vegetarianism created limp wristed pansies. His concern for our dietary habits was to avoid offending the sensibilities of the new followers.
Psalm 137:9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it--for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.

God being truth, justice, goodness, beauty, power, and life, man is falsehood, iniquity, evil, ugliness, impotence, and death. God being master, man is the slave. Incapable of finding justice, truth, and eternal life by his own effort, he can attain them only through a divine revelation... he who desires to worship God must harbor no childish illusions about the matter, but bravely renounce his liberty and humanity.

Yes, Mr. Temperance, you are very kind to join my prayer request. Yes, my behaviour was unacceptable and I did participate in the consumption of alcohol but it was beer and some Highland Park. I will not be doing that again.
