Serious question Pastor, does your church actually charge to become a recognized member and be saved?

Salvation is up to Jesus. There are conditions that apply. Tithing to His favorite church is just one of them.

Just a quick correction. Jesus said all you had to do was repent of your sins and put your faith in him. He never once told the thief on the cross that he had to keep all the commandments and tithe to his local temple and then he would be with him in paradise.

Anything that we add to Jesus' gift (i.e. having to keep certain laws or do certain works) is an attempt to add our own righteousness, and God sees our righteousness as filthy rags (literally filthy menstrual rags).

But, "by your fruit you will be known". If you truly repented and were saved and know Christ you will want to be better. You will stop doing those "sins" (i.e. lying, stealing, blaspheming...) as the Holy Spirit convicts you of them.

Also, the bit about tithing is nowhere in the New Testament! That was a specific part of the old covenant given to that people group, at that time. Unless you are going to hold to all parts of that covenant you cannot tell people they have to do that. The command to New Testament believers is to give cheerfully, to give as the Lord has blessed you... Basically to give as the Holy Spirit leads you to, which could be much more than 10%.

That doesn't count as a "correction", because no one here would disagree with that, or has ever said anything differently.

The Old Testament lists the letter of the law. The New Testament explains the spirit of the law. The letter of the law was the schoolmaster, preparing us for the age of grace. We are no longer bound to the letter of the law, but God is unchanging, and what was sin is still sin. Saved Christians will abide by the spirit of the law, because the Holy Spirit lives inside of us.

About tithing: A person following the letter of the law will grudgingly tithe bare minimum required. Saved Christians living the spirit of the law will cheerfully give much, much more -- we know that we don't need money because God will take care of us, and we know that God will repay us according to our gifts.

2Cor 9:6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

The more you give, the more you receive.

2Cor 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

A saved Christian will cheerfully tithe because he wants to, not because he has to.

2Cor 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

God will make sure that you always have sufficiency in all things, so when thinking about how much to tithe, don't worry about your bills and mortgage payments.

That's the point of the label, to remind us that we all start out as "Unsaved Trash", and that it is only through God's Amazing Grace that we can ever be anything else.
