Brothers and sisters, it grieves me deeply to tell you today that we have lost one of our staunchest warriors against the radical sodomite agenda. The Mayor of San Diego, Californicate has made a sudden reversal of his position, and now supports satan's evil scheme to force queer marriage on us all. THIS is a sad day for all normal people.
I ask you, is this what our persecuted Senator Craig is suffering for? So one man can be blackmailed by his daughter into declaring an entire city queer?
Change of Heart
Wednesday evening, Jerry Sanders signed a petition adding San Diego to a list of other California cities asking the State Supreme Court to overturn a ban on gay marriage.
Sanders had originally said he would veto the resolution but in a tear-filled address, he acknowledged publicly for the first time that his daughter is gay.
"I have close family members and friends who are members of the gay and lesbian community," Sanders said, fighting back tears. "Those folks include my daughter Lisa, as well as my personal staff.
"I want for them the same thing we all want for our loved ones -- for each of them to find a mate who they love deeply and who loves them back, someone who they can grow old together (with) and share life's experiences.
"I want their relationships to be protected equally under the law," the mayor said, as he struggled to get out his words.
"In the end, I couldn't look any of them in the face and tell them their relationship, their very lives, were any less meaningful than the marriage I share with my wife Rana."
Though it was an unusually sudden announcement, members of the gay and lesbian community applauded what many said was a courageous decision. City Commissioner Nicole Murray-Ramirez says, for supporters of gay marriage, the move is a huge victory.
"Today, Jerry Sanders proved what a public servant and what a decent man he is," said Murray-Ramirez who is also a member of the National GLBT Task Force. "I think all San Diegans should be proud of him."
But some are disappointed in Mayor Sanders announcement. Pastor Adlai Mack says he is opposed to the decisions made by members of the city council and now the mayor. He says their actions will lead to the destruction of the family union and society.
"Gay marriage doesn't work for what God intended marriage to be," said Mack. "Which was for genuine companionship and procreation and preservation of the human race."
