I understand perfectly well that Pharaoh needed to be punished, but why the hardening business? Seems to me that was just an insurance policy in case the Pharaoh said yes and God didn't get to do any slaughtering

Well why didn't God cut out the middleman and just punish him? Seems a bit unnecessary and sadistic, especially as God's supposed to be all about forgiveness

God showed His Glory through this event, and in turn, many people have been Saved. From a fallible, sinner's perspective, it seems wrong for God to harden a person and then punish the person He has hardened. Biblically speaking, however, rebellion against God is something each of us was born to do (Romans 3:23), and the just penalty for that rebellion is death (Romans 6:23). Therefore, God’s hardening and punishing a person is not unjust; it is actually merciful in comparison to what the person deserves.

About 10 years ago I was being told that God was speaking to me, but I never heard the *******. Fact is, you don't have a good and relevant answer to either of those questions that doesn't involve conceding defeat.

In a nutshell (you should be able to relate) The Pharaoh was evil. God hurt him by hardening his heart and then punished him for being heartless, so to speak.

Jephthah offered the first thing that came out of his door to greet him, presumably thinking that he'd be offering a sheep or goat or something of much less value. He never explicitly offered his daughter and he certainly wasn't happy with the arrangement when she came out of the house. But God could have said; 'Nah, you're alright mate' - after all, causing a load of guys to be slaughtered shouldn't be too difficult a task for an omnipotent being.

The battle he won was worth many, many lives, and Jephthah was willing to sacrifice one. In a way, Jephthah's love for God is a foreshadowing of God's love for His chosen people. God was willing to sacrifice His Own Begotten Son for all who would believe. It's a testament to love to make a valuable sacrifice like that. What do you have against love?

My point is that perhaps God wasn't in the best of moods so he lost his cool and declared homosexuals an abomination, then never bothered to correct it later

But that's a silly point. Just because you can imagine a scenario doesn't make it likely. Why, God is Sovereign. Of course He would have the Holy Bible reflect the Truth© regardless of any temporary feelings of wrath. It's not like He would have forgotten and then shrugged His divine shoulders when His Children dutifully punished people for Sodomy, sending them to suffer eternally in the fiery pits of Hell for ever and ever. Sheesh, what kind of God do you think we're talking about here? He is not ADD, dear.
