I have to be candid here, Mayor Tommy Hanafan's language gets a little salty at times.
What he was calling me about was the $147,000 awarded to a homer couple in Tommy's city of Coucil Bluffs, Iowa, a couple of hours west of Freehold. He told me it would make some sense if the homers were fined $147 grand for sodomy, but awarded?
He explained it all comes down to an attack on religious freedoms. The custodian in an apartment building in Council Bluffs felt his religion called him to shout at the homers, "You are fags, queers and pillow biters."
The judge took away his religious freedom. I told Tommy we need to bring this up at the next Iowa Conference of Mayors, get a bill in front of the Iowa Legislature and wire up our friend, Govenor Terry Bransted, for the signing.
