With a little more effort, you could be using Biblical language.

Poetic language is Biblical language, we study Isaiah in my Christian poetry class. And honestly, is there anything wrong with making everything that you write beautiful for the glory of God the Father?

Hey everybody, welcome to the virtual fire that I have started. Come, warm yourself while I tell about myself.
I'm a teen, though I'm not telling how old. I love Christ, Tolkien, reading, writing, my priest, the Church, and my family.

I am an inquirer-soon-to-become-catechumen in the Orthodox Church, and the parish that I currently go to is called Holy Trinity.
The main reason that I'm here was I was looking up something related to Harry Potter, ran across a thread here, saw someone citing the Bible as a creditable source, and couldn't just sit there and say nothing. I mean seriously, it's the Bible.

Everyone here seemed to be the 'burn in hell' kind of Christians, and I was beginning to get discouraged.

So you prefer to ignore the parts of the Holy Bible you don't like? Why do you think God added those to the Bible? For you to ignore? Because you know better than God?

Yes, but you'll notice that we're not the ones doing the casting. That's God's job, and I'm not about to presume to take it. I was mainly referring to the thread where a bunch of people were telling some poor guy that he was going to burn in hell because his Mum was black, and then the other thread where someone was basically saying that if you even touch a Harry Potter book, except to toss it in a bonfire, then you're going to burn in hell. Sure, like in the above verse, sorcerers are bad, BUT if a book falls off the shelf, then you're being a good neighbor to the bookstore or library by replacing it where it belongs (not in a fire).


And also, there are a bunch of verses saying that 'you are called to love on another just as Christ loved you'. I remember the verse, but not the reference. It's in one of Paul's letters, I think. Probably Philippians. No one can deny that Christ loved us very, very much.

No one can deny that Christ loved us very, very much.

It is VERY important to realize that Jesus ONLY loves those that also love Him! (Proverbs 6:16-19, Hosea 9:15, Matthew 13:41-42, Deuteronomy 12:31)

And no, the Bible does not tell us you have to love everyone. We should hate gays (Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:26-27), we should hate everyone who doesn't love Jesus (2nd Chronicles 15:13, Deuteronomy 21:18-21) and there is more of this in the Holy Bible.

I really don't get it. Secular education is in thrall to BIG DUMB, we all know that, but you'd think at least they could read (or have read to them) The Ten Commandments?

Right at the top it spells out what an idol is, do not make, do not bow before, do not set up -- it's all there in just a couple of verses and then they build one of their "Orthodox" haunts and the first thing they do is plaster the thing with idols

And whenever I mention this I either get ignored or they just go "No it isn't" -- beyond my comprehension. Even if they don't believe The Bible and want to worship Kali you'd think, before commenting, they could look something up even if they weren't taught it at their schools?

That's insufficient.

The Bible tells us that perfect obedience to ALL of the 630+ commandments, requirements, obligations, clauses, etc. contained in the Bible is the minimum standard for allowance into God's grace.

James 2:10 "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all."

How could one claim to be a True Christian (with or without the ™) without knowing (and following) ALL of them?

You implying that knowledge and obedience of the Ten Commandments is all that's required to consider oneself a true Christian crosses that line, as it's directly contrary to James 2:10 in suggesting that the other 99.8% of the Bible can be safely ignored.
