Saying hi -- and seeking salvation

Hello. Just a note -- written in fear and trembling, in much the same fashion as one seeks salvation -- to introduce myself.

I pastor a church that is not Baptist, although the search continues for actual salvation and Truth. It is elitist and snobby of me, I know, but I spent several years at seminary and earned one of the worthless degrees that they hand out in such places. I repent for that. Truly, I do.

I seek to be set aside from the unsaved trash, and to gain admittance among True Christians.

    Welcome Charlie!

What is the name of the Church you are a Pastor of? What is your favorite sermon you give to your flock?
Christians are superior because we possess an understanding that unbelievers lack. It is through the Power of Jesus only the converted mind is able to understand what is going on in the world; what the Communists are really up to; what Satan's intentions are. Most unbelievers do not even believe in Satan and cannot understand his tactics.

Too bad you are not a Baptist, Sorry to hear that Charlie.

You do follow the KJV 1611 Bible explicitly though, right?
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

Greetings, Levi. I lead the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in my town. There are only a gazillion or so such "firsts" scattered across the United States -- but I serve one of them.

Of course, being "first" in this way is sometimes problematic. For as Jesus said to his disciples in Mark 10:31 (King James Version): "But many that are first shall be last; and the last first." We have prayerfully reflected on this verse's literal meaning, but have finally decided that calling ourselves the Last Christian Church would not be very satisfying. So, we continue to risk hellfire.

As for my "favorite sermon:" that would be whatever sermon I happen to be delivering this Sunday. We preachers tend to live in the present.

Welcome, Charlie. Personally I think "Last Christian Church" has a nice ring to it. It insinuates you are the last Christian church standing, and everyone else is therefore heretical. That's kind of the mindset we take to proudly over here at Landover.

Tell us, what is your favorite Bible verse? Where did you get ordained?

James... my lack of Baptist credentials is irremediable and -- as you say -- painfully unfortunate. I hope you can look past that failing. I can only say that I do have many Baptist friends. One or two of them, I even go fishing with.

But rest assured: the KJV 1611 Bible occupies a position of honor in my office. It is nearby -- never more than five or six feet away -- as I undertake my weekly sermon preparations. It is even one of the old Scofield Reference Bibles (which, of course, rely upon the time-honored KJV 1611 text). For many years, the "Scofield Bibles," complete with KJV 1611 text and dear old C.I. Scofield's notes, were the only source of information at hand for many a frontier preacher.

In the good old days (may they be praised!), every country preacher had his own copy of the Scofield edition. These earnest men who sought to spread God's word across the rural countryside learned pretty much everything they knew about God from King James and Brother Scofield. More than any other single thing, this is why the KJV KJV 1611 Bible is held is such high regard today at places like Landover Baptist Church.

Jim, I can proudly say that we know heretics well in my church. And truly, my more-than-passing familiarity with heretics is what attracted me to Landover.

I have so many favorite Bible verses. I am tempted to mention Philippians 3:2, which begins with a wonderful (and important) bit of advice, "Beware of dogs..." But for the briefest moment, I will set aside all veils and share with you simply, Matthew 25:40: "And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." (KJV)

About three months after I completed seminary, I was ordained in a small church located in the countryside of rural Georgia. I am a second-career minister -- still fairly new to the field, still in my first pastorate. But I am old enough to feel the God-given creaks of middle age.

Godly verse, Charlie! It really points to our need for works.

Maybe you could give a sermon on that entire chapter to Landover some time!

                      Dear Lola,

I have never visited Canada, so I cannot speak from personal experience.

We do have satan worshipers where I live. I've never been fishing with any of them, to the best of my knowledge.

                        Brother Hank,

As I have mentioned above, I am hopeful that the good folks here will forgive me, as God has already, for attending seminary. Please rest assured that I have stood before God and repented of the experience.

I, a repentant sinner, stand now before you. I ask the good Lord now -- just as I do every day -- to please forgive me my elitist, devil-spawned education. I have overly indulged in an elitist perusal of the scriptures, wasting God's own time in thought and reflection.

Brother Hank, I sense the depth of your compassion. So I will confess to you now that I have even on occasion gone beyond simple thought and reflection -- and have formed actual opinions about the things I read in God's own Holy Word (as reported to King James). Forgive me, brother.

Dear Lola. I do note the occasional devil spawn -- the minions of Satan himself -- living here in this very vicinity. There IS something fishy going on, because for the most part I find them on golf courses.

I don't know why that is. But something about the game seems to inspire the deepest of unwashed sin.
