Child, look at his works, which bucked the system completely, much like today's anti-war, anti-capitalist (i.e. money changers in the temple scenario, etc) and on and on will illustrate. This guy had nothing to do with the status quo, or oil, or power, or greed. He just had a message. That is where all Christians go awry in their interpretation of his message. Bible passages/scriptural basis? I guess one just has to read between the lines and have a heart. One can interpret them literally, as have the Baptists, or one can realize that the God we all "whatever" transcends all religions and "just is." Unless you're an atheist, of course, and then you are really living a life in vain.
