The commas aren't necessary either, but that's more of a style thing. I understand what you were doing with them.

Indeed the use of commas are a style thing; however, I once did get an international relations essay marked down because I failed to use commas as much as required, who would have guessed I'd have a lack of comma usage? I shall endeavor to write correctly from now on. Unlike others who upon correcting their spelling, continue to spell just as bad. Nevertheless, I remain grateful.

I too, find myself in fear of the comma Nazis. What is an aspiring proper grammarian, like myself, to do in the face of this red pen tsunami?
