Now, onto the discussion. The Bible was not written by God. At least, not directly. The Muslims have a stake on 'God's word'. The Bible is a series of writings from over 40 different writers, all sharing a common 'revelation': God. Thus, yes, they wrote about their experience with God. However, man wrote the Bible. Given, a good chunk of it was Jewish theologians, but there were portions written by men ranging from fishermen to kings. Once again, not God.

As for the extremes part, that's a false analogy. Religion is not a gaping hole. You can choose to see it that way, but there are far better analogies. I could use one, too: Take information on the internet. Some will believe none of the information they see on the web. Some will take some of it for true, some not true, depending on the information in question. Then, some will take everything on the internet as true. See? False analogies are fun!

How do you, as a sinner, decide which parts of the BIBLE to follow? Wouldn't this be like Society allowing criminals to decide which law applies to them and which doesn't? That is why the TrueChristians™ at Landover Baptist follow ALL of GOD's commandments.

Someday you will die and have to explain to JESUS why you didn't like some of his rules. Do you want to spend all eternity in HELL because you find parts of the BIBLE politically incorrect?

Wait a minute. It's "partially true" that God exists? I'm sorry, but that is nonsensical. Which part of Him are you talking about? The Upper Part or the Lower Part?

And as for the second part, what you described there is more or less morals. I define 'ethical' as correct. I feel that as long as no one or nothing is being hurt by one's actions, it's ethical.
    Proverbs 13:24:
He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

Sometimes, you need to be firm with people for their own best interests. You might hurt someone temporally, but when it's for that person's own good, how comes it is unethical? I hope you don't raise your children that way?

I'm not here to troll, I'm here to talk. I'm fascinated by people who're as fundamentalist as you. For example: You say you follow the word of the bible to the letter, no? If so, why not go through with its prescribed punishments, such as stoning? Is that not part of its demands? How about restrictions, such as those on most seafood, and shaving? Leviticus has a plethora of wonderful laws that no one takes seriously anymore, but you should, no?

That's just one of the many things that I want to talk about. Rest assured, I'm not here to attack you for your beliefs. As much as I disagree, you're entitled to believe what you will. I'm not about to try and deny that. I just hope to be able to have (intelligent) conversation.
As I do with all well intended newcomers here I will give you some advice. If you came for well reasoned discourse this may not be the place for you.

However, if you are a scientist this place is a veritable gold mine of subjects to study. My primary area of research here is on the lack of genetic diversity among Evangelical Christians. This has many potential root causes, but the most predominant seems to be the predilection to breed within family units. Baptists in particular practice this.

In addition, because of their strong belief system, they tend to not properly educate the offspring that survive beyond infancy and choose instead to what they call "home school" them. Like you, I am not here to pass judgment merely to observe.

Having read ALL 3 pages of this thread, Brothers I must agree, the guy is pretty lame! They must be scraping the bottom of the barrel at Atheists R us, to send this looser.

I'm going to have to agree with you, Brother. This chap is not looking to learn but to lecture us Christians. The questions are already answered in the rules and announcements section of this forum.

Frankly, I have heard much more intelligent atheist arguments... perhaps one of us should argue on his behalf as he's not doing a very good job.

You claim to be a Christian, so that means there are at least parts of the Bible you believe in. If that is the case then why do you think all those other parts of the Bible exists? If you believe in Christ, how then can you believe He would allow false information about Him to be in His Bible? Don't you think God, being powerful enough to create everything, would be able to make sure His Bible is correct?

No it was written by people. There's a reason the different books in the Bible have names in them. God just made sure they did it the way he wanted it to be.

You would fail. Your book would be filled with inconsistencies and mistakes in logic, important aspects of life and the meaning of life would be missing. Only God himself could have written a book that covers everything in a consistent and logical way. No human could ever match that. But feel free to try anyway.

The KJV1611 is not his version, it is His version! Unlike many other versions it's translation is far more accurate. But I think you are only pretending to be interested in this. If you would be really interested you would already have known about KJV1611 and you would have read it already.

It's still an assumption. You're assuming God exists. It's true, I'm not very much of a Christian. I believe it's partially true, and thus give it as much attention and importance. But even then, I don't go to the extreme of telling people that they don't have rights and telling everyone they're going to hell.

Thus, I don't have a major problem with other religions, or with homosexuals and the like. But of course, that's so wrong, no?

But rest assured that he's not here to attack our little irrational beliefs, he's just here to tell us that the Bible is written by imbeciles on drugs and that God does not exist

In that case you are wasting our time and God's precious bandwidth.

Not that a busy Godmocker like you would be interested, but I have a sermon on the subject HERE that explains clearly how to tell which Bible version is the one TRUE Word of God.

Anyway, welcome on our True Christian™ forum. I pray that you will open your heart for the uncompromised Message of the Bible.
In my opinion, morals are much less important than ethics. Morals tend to have no logical reasoning behind them.

That's because they often behave as trolls. Atheists and other God-deniers aren't generally known for their moral behaviour, as they have no moral guide:
In my opinion, morals are much less important than ethics. Morals tend to have no logical reasoning behind them.
If that's an example of an intelligent argument, I'd rather have the stupid version...

If you want to learn about God, then simply open the KJV 1611 Bible at page 1 and don't finish until you reach the end.
