Hi and I have a question.

    Hi, I'm Larissa.

I have a question, what do you guys have against Catholics?

Re: Hi and I have a question.

Well I don't like them because they destroyed the old religions and forced people to worship their weak pansy god instead of strong old ones like Odin and Loki.

and they taught people to read which has caused no end of trouble.
I am on the adventure of a lifetime! This is even better than the time I used the plastic stones!

Welcome to God's Favorite Church. What is your favorite Bible verse? How many Children have you had for Jesus?

To answer you question on Cathreliks, they are not a Christian Church. They worship Mary, and not Jesus. Cathreliks do not follow the Holy Word of God, as given to us in the Bible KJV1611. How is that for starters?

Ecclesiastes 3 is my favorite. Probably a bit cliche, but it was very comforting to me after my father's passing. I have no children. I'm only 19.

I am Catholic, which is why I'm asking. May I ask why you think we worship Mary? I do not nor have ever worshipped Mary, I know that Jesus is my true Savior.

Have you told your priest that you joined a Baptist forum? How did he respond?

Did you bother to search the forum for threads with the word Catholic in their title? You might find all the information that you seek.
May you be a blessing to every life you touch.

Not being one of LBC's favored sons, I can't speak for them.

Personally, I find the entire Catholic mythos and tradition to be steeped in pure paganism. Does this remind you of anything?

No, I did not tell my priest. I like most people in our church are not on a personal basis with him where I would tell him I joined this forum.

I looked a bit at the Catholic thread, but to me, a lot of it seems misunderstood (such as the fact that we do not worship Mary).

I joined through a search and since I have been to Baptist churches with my ex-husband.

Of course there are resemblences to Paganism, as a lot of points in our religion were used to make Pagans of the time feel more comfortable converting. Catholicism was part of bringing quite a few people to Jesus, however. Others branches of Christianity did not start for many, many years after my church.

I guess my question more so is, am I welcome here as a Catholic?

I was born Catholic. My dad was very, very involved in the church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, who were like an extended family to me growing up. My mom is an atheist and I had a crisis of faith that lasted many years due to their divorce. She is a lesbian, which is why their marriage did not work. This led me to question things, because I had always believed homosexuality was wrong, but I loved my mother very much. I lived with my dad, as I was much closer with him and couldn't tolerate her lifestyle. However, due to my mom's choices and later a sister who was also a lesbian, I turned away from my church. It broke my father's heart, as I had always gone to church with him, served as an alter girl, etc. I did not turn back to God until my father was diagnosed with cancer when I was about 13-14. I realized how much I needed God in my life. I have not explored many other branches of Christianity, to be honest. Catholisim was what I was born with and surrounded with (I live in a town of about 5K with 7 or 8 Catholic churches). Pretty much anyone who wasn't Catholic was "weird" or an "outsider." I never liked that part of it honestly. I have never sought out another religion, it wasn't even till recently that I have considered that just because I was born Catholic does not mean I don't identify with another branch of Christianity more. I wholeheartedly believe that Jesus is my Savior and I want to be as close to him as possible.

I am sorry for the long winded reply!

I can certainly tell you that's not up to me. I can also tell you; if you are scripturally correct and have extremely thick skin, you'll do just fine, dear one.

If not, you will be tossed into the pits of hell like the countless others. I strongly suggest you study those Catholic threads outside of the pedo references. There are some heavyweight arguments on both sides.

As if there are some contradictions in the Word.

Study those and explain to them why they are wrong. Be eloquent. Be Christ-like constantly turning the other cheek. Know your arguments without copying and pasting from others without citation. ( i.e. askacatholic, catholics and etc)

They know every counter-argument and more, I can assure you.

That is all you have to do to be mildly tolerated here.

                      I'm rooting for you, sister,

Ah yes, Italians. The Knights what a great charitable organization. I live in a neighborhood where they have a strong presence. Not even the most foolheardy street punk lays their building with spray paint.

No doubt due to their godliness.

I can't imagine how you feel. I am truly sorry. Prepare for a flurry of people saying it is a lifestyle choice. There are so many scriptures against buggery in the Bible. I generally ignore them and go with the parts that make sense to me.

Ah yes, the bad things to good people syndrome. The primal scream of, WWWWWWHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?! WTF, did he/I do?

It's not our's to decide. God creates the light and the darkness, evil and good. We are merely to obey His whims.

Thank you so much for being so kind . As a Catholic, I had always been taught homosexuality was wrong. I love my mom and my sister very much though, and I just couldn't wrap my head around the idea that they could be sent to hell for whom they were in love with. That along with other things about Catholism I consider unfair (treatment of nuns vs. priests, etc.) just turned me off from religion and God as a whole.

I realized I needed God when I finally realized and had no choice but to accept that he was going to die. I was, and still am, a total "Daddy's girl." He was an amazing father and for that I was very blessed. I felt very alone, very confused, angry, etc. and I got to a really low point where I broke down and prayed for the first time in a long time. I was almost 17 when he passed and have since regained my relationship with God. It's not as good as I'd like it to be but it's something I'm working on daily.

I read parts of that thread. I still know that I and every Catholic I know, do not worship Mary. She is well respected and we do obviously pray to her, but to us there is a very clear line between praying and worship.

                              Larissa. What a nice name.

I grew up in the Catholic church, too, and just a few years ago divorced my Catholic wife after I came to the realization that I had been duped over all those years into believing things that just made less and less sense with each passing year. I'm 50 years old now and can say with confidence that there is nothing to gain from praying to anybody other than God. The repetition of prayers to Mary, whether as an assignment of "penance" or for any other reason, amounts to praying to Mary to ask her to act as a liaison between God and us. We do not need a liaison to build a personal relationship with Christ Jesus. You say, as all Catholics are similarly programmed, that Mary is not worshiped. Have you ever participated in or witnessed the "May Crowning" ritual? Kindly explain to me how "May Crowning" doesn't amount to Mary worship. It does. It is.

Nowhere in the King James Bible does God say that we should worship or pray to anyone but Him under any circumstances. Indeed, Scripture is very clear on this.

                              John 4:23 (King James Version)

23But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

I'm just scratching the surface here, Larissa. My experience with the catholic church is from my infancy right up though just a couple of years ago. Fully one sixth of the world's population is on the same hell-bound train that I thank Jesus every day I was able to escape. And every day I open my eyes, Jesus tells me, "You're welcome, Paul!" Life is good.
