    Greetings fellow Christians!

After doing a bit of browsing around this forum, I think I'm finally in the right place. I'll tell you a bit about myself. I'm a 45-year-old history teacher in a Christian, non-denominational high school near our nation's capital. I am a ten-year member of Independent Baptist Church of Georgetown. I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to share my faith in Jesus Christ with folks like yourselves and I am always striving to spread the Word to everyone I meet. I think it's vital in today's world that we get the message out to everybody we possibly can. People need to know now more than ever what the Bible and being a Christian is all about. I hope you don't mind if I quote a favorite verse from Scripture.

    Matthew 28:18-20 (King James Version)
18And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Many thanks for the chance to be among you. I hope the "investigation" will be expeditious.

Oops! I found a typo in my very first post and want to be quick to acknowledge it. I wrote "many thinks" and meant to say, "many thanks". Sorry for the error. I will try not to let it happen again.

Welcome to our little part of the Internets.

Although it may look like we're grammar nazi's, we're really not. Typo's we can understand, it's just when somebody goes on and on ad nauseam about their superior intelligence when they can't even form a basic sentence, we start to get picky.

So why did you pick your name and avatar? What grades do you teach?

My name is John [i]Warren[i/] Booth. Being a descendant of one of his sisters, "Asia", I have never demonized John Wilkes Booth, as I guess I'm supposed to. His faith gave him certain convictions to which I am sympathetic. I certainly don't condone his methods, but his overall goals weren't dishonorable.

I teach high school, most of my students are sophomores and juniors, but there are always a few wayward seniors (usually lettermen) sprinkled in the mix, too.

Welcome my friend! I too have misunderstood ancestors. Most people today tend to squirm and cough when you mention that your great great great grandfather was the captain of a slave ship.

These PC Nazis seem to unable to comprehend the historical context! Hello! Being granted a captaincy of an ocean-going vessel was a big deal back then!

So many friendly welcomes! I am humbled. That signature always struck me as an interesting quote, even if it was from a rather infamous man. I'm pretty active in politics out here, not as a candidate, but as a volunteer. The last election was disappointing, but the countless hours of work I did for the Huckabee campaign was well worthwhile. I think maybe I've twisted the quote into something other than what its creator had in mind. I want people to vote in every single election they can vote in without fail. The worst thing we conservatives can do is only vote every four years. There's lots more at stake than just the White House. It's about getting the vote out. See what we accomplished in Massachusetts? We have a lot of work to do if we're going to one day "amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards" as Mike once said.

In March of 2008, I got to have lunch with Mike Huckabee and was also introduced to Gloria Copeland and I will remember it for the rest of my life.

Praise Jesus, he has GOT to win next time!

Welcome. At what school do you teach? I have family in Northern Virginia, so maybe they'll have heard of it.
This church is dedicated to preaching True Christianity™ and the King James Bible exactly as they are, with no alterations to make them more politically correct for modern liberals. If you think that we've misquoted or twisted Scripture or quoted any verse out of context, please explain in detail how we've done so. Otherwise, if what you read on this site offends you, then you're offended by Almighty God and His Word, not by us.

                  Re: Greetings fellow Christians!

Greetings. I am also an educator, and I am blessed to be able to spread the Gospel even within the public school system here in Texas! I understand this is difficult in other states, and I would most likely be teaching science in a Christian academy if I lived anywhere else.

Our State Board of Education recently crafted some excellent guidelines for history curricula. I'm sure you already have excellent lesson plans put together, but it never hurts to see what other teachers of Truth are doing and borrow good ideas.
                  II Thessalonians 1:7-9
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power

The man who is being progressively sanctified will inescapably sanctify his home, school, politics, economics, science, and all things else by understanding and interpreting all things in terms of the Word of God and by bringing all things under the Dominion of Christ the King. -R.J. I'm thankful to have found a Christian school. I've been there for almost five years and have taught the history class, for the most part, by the book. BUT, I have always made a point of at least briefly exploring the faith traditions of each historically significant person as their names come up in the chronology. Unfortunately, at the high school level, history education is pretty broad and leaves little time for any meaningful depth of study. But I think it's important that students take the time to know each historical figure in the context of their religious convictions because those convictions, more often than not, contributed to their politics and decisions, sometimes even their fates.

His name is Rodney Moye. I asked Rod today if he knows you. He said he doesn't recall having met you, but his wife Diana said she's pretty sure they've met you, though, at some conference somewhere. She and Rod were sort of arguing about it after I mentioned it, but their little guy, Ethan, was all about throwing his little football around in the parking lot so I got sort of caught up in the moment and ended up with him as my shadow for the next hours while Diana kept his little brother and Rod worked on some "special" stuff for Easter services tomorrow. Tomorrow is gonna be AWESOME! I may just stay up all night!
