    Etymologial curiosity

    Hello, I registered some years ago but I did not feel worthy to post this inquiry and introduction until now.

    I am curious what it means to literally be a Christian. I understand 'Christ' is a modern word we use descended from 'Kristos' or some Roman thing they called our saviour Jesus, a synonym for 'Annointed' (as he was annointed by John the Baptist who recognized him as superior) or 'Messiah' or something like that.

    But about the -ian. Where is that from? When I tried to research this, Wikipedia said that it is derived from a word like -ianos or something which meant 'slave' and that originally it was said to Christ's followers like some kind of insult, but then they identified with the term because being a slave to Christ would be wonderful.

    Does anyone know? I just noticed that it seems different than what other groups use. Like you see "satanIST" or "evolutionIST" or "darwinIST" or "buddhIST" so I am apprehensive to think that -ist would be a suffix worthy of our saviour Jesus Christ.

    Are there other suffixes which might be worthy though?

          Are you trying to come up with your own language, son? American English is perfect as it is. I could do without some of the profanity, but apparently that is all part of God's plan.
