  • Ahoy and fair winds.

Greetings friends. Just looking for a little fellowship, it gets lonely on the sea and I just installed my new MARSAT internet link that allows me to know the weather, home in on a few more fish schools than I might otherwise and find a few friends online.
Matthew 8:26 And he says unto them, Why are all of you fearful, O all of you of little faith?
Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

There are always other hands aboard, but finding good labor is not easy and often find myself employing those that barely speak my language, let alone have a similar faith.

        Welcome Before The Mast

Please share a little information about yourself.

Have you accepted Jesus as your savior?

What's your favorite quote from the Holy Book?

        Are you married?

        Do you have any sons?

Where do you live, when you are not on the sea?

I do not hope that your loneliness, compared with a life together with several handsom sailor men, has resulted in any homer activities. Are you a homer?

A cautious welcome. We already have one God-mocking pirate here, and he's a full time job. Are you one of those?

            Re: Ahoy and fair winds.

No pirate here, real ones terrorize honest men and make a mockery of hard work.

My life is likely not seen in the best light now that I've read from your gathering a bit more. I have offspring though I haven't seen them in a very long time as I changed my life to one that kept myself under control and my hands busy. I'm looking for a change in that aspect as I reach my twilight and become less able to stay busy.

I think this has been my albatross, as it were and the passage I always have in my mind. "For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." Mk. 4.24

The Azores are an occasional home but not often enough. I am usually found in the region of Newport, RI during the winters. I've been a cod and tuna fisherman most of my life though the Banks no longer provide like they used to. So my carving and weaving hobbies provide some income in the tourist shops.

                Re: Ahoy and fair winds.

                Pastor,

I was born into and baptized and born again in a Nazarene Church. I used to attend different Nazarene Church's, stopping by a Baptist (preferred) or Weslylan (if no other choice) when one was not readily close by but not as often as I would like. I've since changed my ways and attend church more often but usually it's a maritime church, usually of Baptist origins. My wife was a devout Nazarene but passed some time ago, we had a son who sadly I lost contact with a very long time ago. I believe he continued in his mother's strong faith.

Why I'm here is because I've lost my way and am looking again. This place is a bit firebrand for me but I didn't come for anything more than some guidance. I'll try and keep a low profile and read more than I speak. You really do seem like genuinely passionate folks and I like that.
Matthew 8:26 And he says unto them, Why are all of you fearful, O all of you of little faith?
Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

Welcome Before the Mast...........I have got to state that I am most uncomfortable with the concept of you at sea on a boat full of foreign cabin boys

                      Yes Brother Warner.

I too am a bit cautious of all those seamen?

Whatever do they do on shore-leave in the Azores? Or do you keep them tied up? I know I would! There is much evil around the docks - well it's usually a pretty reliable place for Satan according to The Mission to Seamen, and it certainly sounds like you've got a lot of seamen on your hands!

I'm not sure, does God hate The Azores?

                        Welcome, anyway, Mr. The Mast

                          Re: Ahoy and fair winds.

                          Ms. or Mrs. Charlie,

With no question, I can assure you that there are no such men on boats of hard work nor directly around the docks. Such men are further up the warf and not visited by anyone of sound mind and beliefs. A man on a boat with such inclinations would eventually find himself set upon the sea in the early morning if he displayed such qualities. There are good men to be found, was not Jesus a fisher of men?

I would like to request that my name here on the forum be changed to my real name, Jordan Lightner. I'm cautious around strangers and I humbly request your forgiveness for my caution, I did not mean to be deceiving. I think I have found a wonderful place to read, learn and be.

Thank you Pastor Ezekiel for the guidance. I had begun to read those notes and found this in particular to be very comforting.

"We believe that the best way to understand a passage is to read it as a child would read it. If you are in doubt as to what a passage means, ask a child to read it and tell you what he thinks it means."

So many years have I toiled with the Bible, now I see it was not so hard.
Matthew 8:26 And he says unto them, Why are all of you fearful, O all of you of little faith?
Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
