    A title other than "Hello"

My name is Michael, and I am a Catholic open to other Christian beliefs. I am currently residing in Italy for a study abroad session. I stumbled upon your forum several days ago, and after creeping in the shadows for a while I became intrigued. I then decided I wanted to become more involved to learn more about the Baptist Church and your beliefs. I've read the FAQs and NOOB guides, so don't worry, I'll do my best not to post anything you've already seen a hundred times!

As for my favorite Bible verse?
    Gen 1:1
In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth.
I've always seen a simple beauty in that line, even though there are so many other good options in the Book!

    YIC,
    Michael

Welcome to the forums Michael. Tell us more about yourself. Why are you a Catlick? Do you enjoy sullying the good name of Jesus with your papal and Mary worship? What are your thoughts on another catlick sect Santeria?
Genesis 4:12: When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

Numbers 35:19: The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.

Glad to have you here. Do you have children? Would you like to convert to our Church?

We are Christians not open to other beliefs, such as pagan Catlickers. I hope coming to this site helps you see the error of your ways. Seeing as you are in Italy, the belly of the beast, you are probably under increased mind-control of the evil emanations coming from poop central.

If your poop is infallible and God is protecting him why does he need an armored ice cream truck with four inches of bullet-proof glass?
Leviticus 13:44 He is a leprous man, he is UNCLEAN: the priest shall pronounce him utterly UNCLEAN; his plague is in his head.

2 Kings 6:25 And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver.

I am a Catholic because, as I would imagine is the same with many of you, it is the form of Christianity I was born into. Additionally, up to this point in time it has seemed the most convincing to me. As Catholics, we don't worship either the pope or Mary; we ask Mary and the saints to pray for us, which is quite different (fortunately) than Santeria, the Native American/Catholic hybrid religion.

No, am I still a student and am yet to find a wife, so children are a ways off at the moment. I am unsure if I want to convert, which is one of the reasons I registered. While I've thoroughly compared other religions to Christianity, I haven't yet truly looked at the different forms of Christianity, especially not such a compelling form as I've found here.

Actually, I've encountered more Atheists here than Catholics. It turns out I'm in an extremely liberal city.

Infallibility has only been invoked twice in history and has more to do with doctrine than with the pope himself. When we say the pope is infallible, that is only if after careful prayer and thought he decides he must call a conference to discuss the Bible. He uses an armored Mercedes because of past attempts on the pope's life. I'd like to answer with a question to you all--would you feel safe walking down the streets in a Muslim country with a cross on your t-shirt? I think it's a very similar thing with the pope.

Whew! Lots of questions! I have one of my own now: how did you guys (and girls!) decide Baptist is the True Path to love and know Christ?

Hi Michael. Your Catholicism is a problem, since we don't want you to go to Hell, but we're glad you're open to becoming a Christian instead.

I am currently residing in Italy for a study abroad session.
Perhaps seeing the way Catholicism has ruined that country will help you to see the light.

I wanted to become more involved to learn more about the Baptist Church and your beliefs. I've read the FAQs and NOOB guides, so don't worry, I'll do my best not to post anything you've already seen a hundred times!
Excellent. I hope you popped by the Bible in a Year thread. The Catholic Church doesn't want people reading the Bible for themselves, so you could probably use a refresher lesson.

I am a Catholic because, as I would imagine is the same with many of you, it is the form of Christianity I was born into.
Sad but sensible. At least you weren't born a Muslim!

Additionally, up to this point in time it has seemed the most convincing to me. Why do you need saints to pray for you?Remember John 14:6: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Answer honestly, do you get better results when you ask Mary or whomever to pray for you than you do when you simply ask Jesus yourself?

I haven't yet truly looked at the different forms of Christianity, especially not such a compelling form as I've found here.
Perhaps God guided you to us for a reason.

The "saints" are dead. I am therefore unable to pray to them. Mary is also dead. They are unable to intercede for me in any way.
                            I Timothy 2:5
If somebody wants to make up a different belief system, either not based on The Bible (e.g. Sikhs) or deliberately contradicting The Bible in every way, they are of course free to do so.
Nevertheless, on their way to Hell, the Sikhs manage not to carve idols to worship.
Roman catholicism on the other hand is awash with effigies of dead people. Bobbing and curtseying to them, thinking that they are watching over us, observing their "saints' days" and muttering gibberish over bits of their toenail constitutes worshipping them. A mere glance at The Bible is enough to demonstrate the gross travesty this false religion represents.
