Re: Hi! I'm new here! A quick question!

    "I love math, lets see 4000(BC) + 2010( Age of Jesus)= 6010 years yep that's about right."

4000BC is just recorded civilization. There are cave paintings and artifacts that date back ~30,000 years, and fossilized humans ~2 million years.
    ------------------------------
"Then why does the Bible refer to days, with evenings and mornings, rather than extended periods of time?"

The Holy Bible was not written in English. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew. The Hebrew word for "day", "yom" does not mean a day in the way we think of it. It actually DOES mean a period of time.
    -----------------------------------
"Also, how do you know which parts of the Bible to read as figures of speech and which to read literally?"

I have no idea. If you figure that one out, you let me know!
    -----------------------------------------------
"Cool, I notice that you are from Louisiana, is your Mom by chance your sister? Are you a Papist?"

That first one was a blatant, rude stereotype that I will disregard. And a Papist? Does that mean Catholic? If so, then no, I am not a Catholic.
    Judges 15:15-16
And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith. And Samson said, With the jawbone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jaw of an ass have I slain a thousand men.

It will help you in understanding about how God acted on mankind when using technologies not given by Him.

This degree upon graduation might at best get you a position as an assistant manager at the local fast food restaurant.

Again, who says, and why is that person more trustworthy than the Bible?

The Holy Bible was not written in English. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew. The Hebrew word for "day", "yom" does not mean a day in the way we think of it. It actually DOES mean a period of time.
Since when do generalized periods of time have evenings and mornings? Also, sodomites say that the words in the Bible verses used to rebuke them actually mean something else in the original languages, too, so I trust you'll forgive me for being a little leery of the "Oh, it doesn't literally mean what the word says in English" school of Bible interpretation.

I have no idea. If you figure that one out, you let me know!
Then how do you know which parts of the Bible to accept as literally true? You've stated some things that you believe about Christ; if you don't know which parts of the Bible to accept as literal statements of truth, then just why do you believe such things?
This church is dedicated to preaching True Christianity™ and the King James Bible exactly as they are, with no alterations to make them more politically correct for modern liberals. You said that God created the earth 14.5 billion yeas ago. Then he took a break and made man. Then you say that goes back 2 million years, then 30000 years the 4000 years. If the earth is 14.5 billion years old and man is 2million years old why did the Bible not say so?

"Also, how do you know which parts of the Bible to read as figures of speech and which to read literally?"

Deuteronomy 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

Deuteronomy 12:32 What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
Proverbs 30:6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

Matthew 4:4 Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Revelation 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
Revelation 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Actually, the Bible is a very reliable history of the Hebrew people, that my History professors have cited. Things like the exodus from Egypt and the Babylonian Exile are just a few examples of how the Bible can be uses as a reliable historical source.

All of it should be read literally, of course.

However, lets do a thought experiment. Suppose a person does think parts of the Bible are metaphorical. Where do they draw the line as to what is literal and what isn't? Is the Creation literal? The Flood and Noah's Ark? The talking serpent in the Garden? The idea that we're all descended from Adam and Eve? Jonah getting swallowed by a big fish? Jesus's miracles? The idea that Jesus was the Son of God? Even the very existence of God Himself? All of these things are presented exactly the same way in the Bible, and by suggesting that one of them is metaphorical, you need to acknowledge the fact that the only way you can believe in any of those other statements is due to your own personal bias, and your own personal bias alone.

Surely you can now agree that accepting only parts of the Bible is a very slippery slope indeed, friend.
"Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him." The genealogies of the KJV1611 Bible place Adam and Eve at around 4,000 BC. Those fossils you're talking about were planted by Satanists to trick you into hating God and thinking it's alright to masturbate and ejaculate inside of a man's anus. Don't be fooled!

I don't feel like digging up the verses to support this. Everything else is up for interpretation
Oh, so only little bits and pieces matter, and the rest is filler? We believe that the Genesis creation account matters theologically and affects one's salvation, too. Without a creation as described in Genesis, there would have been no Adam as described in Genesis, and without him, salvation as described in the New Testament would be pointless:

Romans 5:12-19: Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. But not as the offence, so also [is] the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, [which is] by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as [it was] by one that sinned, [so is] the gift: for the judgment [was] by one to condemnation, but the free gift [is] of many offences unto justification. For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Therefore as by the offence of one [judgment came] upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one [the free gift came] upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
This church is dedicated to preaching True Christianity™ and the King James Bible exactly as they are, with no alterations to make them more politically correct for modern liberals. If you think that we've misquoted or twisted Scripture or quoted any verse out of context, please explain in detail how we've done so. Otherwise, if what you read on this site offends you, then you're offended by Almighty God and His Word, not by us.

Re: Hi! I'm new here! A quick question!

Gen 1:26 says God created man on the 6th "day". Then, in 2:7, on the eighth "day" it says he created Adam. Evidence that Adam wasn't the first man? Perhaps!
                                Judges 15:15-16
And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith. And Samson said, With the jawbone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jaw of an ass have I slain a thousand men.
